Roseau, Dominica – May 20, 2009……Prime Minister, Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit has stated that it is his Government that has been able to provide more resources to local authorities in Dominica for implementing projects in communities across the land.
Hon. Skerrit, who is also the Minister for Finance and Social Security and National Security made the disclosure at the Sixteenth Inaugural Meeting of the La Plaine/La Ronde Village Council at the Jones Beaupierre Primary School last week.
“I believe the most important way that the Government has been empowering local government authorities is by giving them the resources, the money to implement community-based projects. And I will say without a shred of contradiction that it is this government that has been able to provide more resources to local government authorities across the country to help implement the projects and programmes,” Hon. Skerrit stated.
The Prime Minister commended the Council for the manner in which it has utilised government resources for the rehabilitation of roads on the Government’s behalf.
Hon. Skerrit told the councillors that Government would soon be calling upon the Council to assist in the implementation of the Housing Revolution programme in La Plaine. The Government will provide the resources directly to the Council to assist in the repair of homes in that community.
The Members of the La Plaine/La Ronde Village Council are Davis Thomas (Chairman), Dileon St.Jean, Derrick Lestrade, Rose Blaize, Jim Reeves Allan, Hermine Bruney, Avis Dejean Edward and Ursula Lestrade. The Council was first inaugurated in 1963.
