@Traveler … except that Mueller didn’t say that Trump was not guilty in his report. *Barr* implied that in _his_ 74 word summary of the 448 page dedacted report.
Meuller did *not* exonerate Trump when it came to committing crimes or being involved in crimes related to Russian election interference.
The report stated “they were *not* confident of Trump’s innocence” and Meuller stated that if they had been they would have statd so …but they didn’t.
What they lacked was concrete evidence, likely due to Trump’s 10 instances of obstruction, as noted in the report, e.g. Dismal of James Coney, President’s Efforts to remove the Special Council, President’s efforts to curtail the Special Counsel investigation, etc. *and* Trump’s private attempts to control the investigation (noted in the report).
The report did state there were numerous efforts from Russia to influence the election, that Trumps campaign welcomed that interference but that Trump, himself, could not be proven to have colluded (but was not exonerated of), that dept. policy stated that a president cannot be convicted of a federal crime while in office, even if the crime is kept hidden and under seal, which Meuller labelled “unconstitutional”, and that charging the president, regardless of their findings was not an allowed option.
Mueller returned once, after resigning, to publicly state that his report did *not exonerate* Trump. Strange that he thought it important to emphasize that particular point, huh?
He also stated that “while Justice Department policy prohibits charging a sitting president with a crime, the Constitution provides for another remedy to formally accuse a president of wrongdoing”, i.e., impeachment. An odd thing to bring up if someone thinks the president might be innocent don’t you think?
Edit: so what you’re apparently proud of is not that Trump was proven, or even considered possibly innocent, but rather that he managed to obstruct the investigation to such a degree that his guilt couldn’t be proven even though the investigators felt he was. Way to set a low bar.
