He has ruled in favor of more liberal causes (as a matter of fact, during the height of the caucus trial, he ruled that while it’s not illegal under census laws, the current administration’s attempt to put in a citizenship question aimed specifically at immigrants could be reviewed and stated their reasons for doing so was insufficient, AKA corrupt at worst) several times.
