God be with you all, from the US. Maybe you could just postpone the fireworks until it is safer for you.
If we did that we’d *never* have fireworks in Australia again. New Years Eve is in the middle of summer & summer Down Under means bushfires. & it has done since before Australia was even founded as a country.
Asking people who live here to postpone the New Year celebrations till its safer. Would be like asking people who live in the Northern Hemisphere to postpone Christmas. Until the risk of blizzards & extreme cold weather has passed.
Plus it would be seriously detrimental to the local economy. People come from across the world just to experience Sydney’s fireworks display.
It’s considered to be best (after watching the ball drop in Time Square) New Years Eve celebrations in the world!
A lot of business make more money on New Years Eve than they do in the entire month of December.

Thank your thoughts. FYI the fireworks in Sydney are over the harbour, the risk of starting a bushfire there is zero. Any rural areas with fire risk have thankfully already cancelled fireworks displays!
PS personal fireworks in Australia have been banned for these risks for decades.

It doesn’t matter if you believe in climate change or not. The world needs to go to a green economy just to be able to have enough resources for everyone to have a middle class life. It will happen because the market will demand it; electric cars will be so much better that people will want them. People will want green homes because they will be cheaper.
