The earth's inner core may have stopped turning and could go into reverse, said researchers who studied seismic waves from decades of earthquakes.

Planet Earth's inner core may have stopped turning and could go into reverse, according to a study published this week.

Earth is formed of three layers: the crust, the mantle, and the core.

Made almost entirely of metal – specifically, iron and nickel, its inner core rests 3,200 miles below the crust, separated from the mantle by the liquid outer core which allows the inner core to rotate at a different speed from the planet's rotation.

  1. Considering the earth’s mantle by itself is horribly incompatible for life (being upper part 1,000 C to to lower 3700 C) followed by an outer core (between 4,500° and 5,500° Celsius), then inner core (5,200° Celsius) earth’s crust protects us from such extreme heat — volcanoes remind us how hot the majority of earth is! Earth’s crust that sustains life is only 25-mile deep—just 1% of Earth’s mass. Mind blowing, isn’t it.

  4. The molten core that regulates our electromagnetic field? -the thing that protects us from solar flares? What about the earths axis/poles; could it effect that? Also aren’t Global temperatures regulated by the relationship between our planets surface and its molten core?
