Teacher’s doctor’s, police and soldiers should get the most pay into the world. A matter a fact Teacher’s should get the most pay.because without a Teacher you wouldn’t have any doctor’s nurses are government. So pay up the Teacher’s them nuff nuff money 💰

We should be training more of our own to become doctors before importing Md’s.
The Ministry of Health partnering with the private sector should build ambulatory care and urgent care facilities throughout Western Jamaica – this will lighten the burden of the hospitals. The Ministry of Education should offer free education to Mds, RNs. NPs., Pharmacist. etc. with a 10-year commitment to Jamaica for the free education. Implement increased salaries and better working conditions. This will help with retention. Thereafter, start a marketing campaign in the utilization of services. It would also help to build a new hospital.
I agree! I would gladly study to become an RN to help out our current healthcare issues if I was provided the free education.
I agree with you as I have mentioned programs like that to a friend of mine who lives in Jamaica. I believe if perks were offered with meaning, it would sustain retention, even if they go abroad; reward them for coming back home with competitive salaries. This is needed in all areas that require formal and higher education. Educate the youth and give them a reason to remain in Jamaica.
What is the performance standard of students entering the Technical High School on our Island
This talk of importing labour by Tufton and Seaga disgusts me. Our GDP per capita is only around $5,000 US which means we are a very unproductive economy with a lot of slackness in the labour market. Employers need to find ways to make their workers more productive so they can pay them more and, maybe if they pay employees more then more people who are not currently working will be incentivized to work. Maybe some of those Jamaicans who are doing farm, hotel and cruise ship work abroad would be enticed back to Jamaica with higher pay. Doing so will result in greater tax revenues so the government can better afford to meet the union demands of the police and teachers.
Instead, our stupid leaders want to import poorly paid people to Jamaica to further marginalize our working poor. This amounts to the modern-day equivalent of indentured servitude and slavery for foreign workers. Our current leaders are showing themselves to be nothing but useless plantationists at heart. WE DO NOT NEED IMPORTED WORKING POOR!! WE HAVE OUR OWN WORKING POOR TO LOOK AFTER!!! The LABOUR party originally looked out for working people but it has clearly lost its way. If the PNP had any use, they would be making noise about this.
If skills are not available locally, we may need to import a very limited number of foreign workers with rare skills but local employers must be required to keep them on short-term contracts and pay them at least $9 million per year (only $60,000 US) plus a $1 million donation to HEART for each year they are here. Also, rules need to be put in place to make that a cash payment to prevent our employers from cheating by charging foreign workers excessive amounts for housing allowances, etc.

Regarding the availability of nurses and doctors, we have no choice but to employ out of country. They should come with good work ethics and great communication skills

It shall be worse, pay the people them,you people are collecting the bags and the people who are doing the work are not being paid for the amount of work they are doing. In fact , the government shows how much he does not appreciate what they are doing by underpaying them . Other countries appreciate them so go where you are wanted and grow .
