Just to make a historical point: King Charles I refused to enter a plea when the Rump Parliament tried him for treason. He demanded to know by what authority the body could judge him as according to him he answered only to God. Parliament, unprepared for that answer, at first halted itself then trudged ahead, unconcerned that the king refused to do anything to defend himself. The court/Parliament executed him. So Trump’s refusal to “partake” in a prosecutor sounds absolutist but doesn’t work in the end if there’s a case to be made.
