@Francisco Arroyo Those four territories you mentioned are the four he foolishly claimed he had ‘annexed’. Putin at no time has had complete control of them. After 3 weeks of partial control of 3 of these territories his military is now battling in small parts of 2 of them to allow him time to transport what remains of his artillery, transport vehicles and soldiers back into Russia before winter. He is in retreat, he has no military ‘powers’ to ‘consolidate’ in Ukraine. For weeks, from a distance he has concentrated what is left of his missiles and imported Iranian drones on killing non-combatant civilian men, women, children and the destruction of infrastructure in Ukraine’s major cities.
The challenge for Ukraine’s military, NATO and the rest of the Democratic free World is to prevent Putin’s military from regrouping, rearming, resupplying, refuelling and then returning for another ‘crack’ in Spring. For now, Putin is no longer fighting to defeat Ukraine, his battle now is to save his own life.

Putin has no exit strategy. Like Hitler at the end of WW2, he thinks that he is invincible but is embarrassed by his military losses and is desperately striking out. Near his end, Hitler suffered from tertiary (late stage) syphilis. Perhaps Putin has a similar problem. Russia must be made to pay for Putin’s war crimes.

Yeah, Russia can not be trusted and should not be trusted for decades. They made their bed, they can jolly fucking well sleep in it. No future trade deal should treat them as trustworthy partners on eye-level. If they want a trade deal, their non-fulfillment should cost them dearly.
For instance: No more money up front, Russia delivery of goods before payment. In terms of gas/oil and so on, they need to supply a set amount per month and year, if they fail to meet that amount even by just a fucking cubic inch, they get no money at all until they made up the deficit. Full stop.
A quote Putin might want to consider: “The victor is not victorious if the vanquished does not consider himself so.”. Russia can decide to start the war without the consent of Ukraine, but they can’t decide to end it without the consent of Ukraine.

Russia could end the war by leaving Ukraine completely. However that would not absolve them of the responsibility to pay for the damages they have inflicted on Ukraine – not to mention bringing them to justice for all the war crimes they have committed there.
They can end it quite fast if they wanted to. But that’s not the point.
Russia probably rejoined the grain deal because they couldn’t enforce a blockade because they either didn’t have the ships or their ships suddenly became too vulnerable to attack.

Yup. I was curious so I poked around. Some of the missiles hitting UA infrastructure (or just.. people) were launched by some of the Black Sea fleet. So he was claiming the Russian warships were there to ensure compliance and safe passage of Russi..er.. Ukrainian grain south while using at least some of those ships to attack. I haven’t seen anyone connect all those dots but, last week there were reports that Putin’s ships were launching Kalibr cruise missiles into Ukraine and it looks like *faux shocked* UA had the audacity to push them back. Since Turkey has closed passage in, Russia can’t bring in any replacements for lost ships.

There was a period in England when water authorities regulations required houses to have at least 24 hours water storage. We had a large tank in our attic from which water was drawn and which was automatically refilled from the city supply.
Perhaps it is now time to have large LOCAL water storages!!

Grain continues to go out thru Poland & the Baltic. Europe can certainly obtain it that way as well. Turkey’s fleet is far superior to (what is left of) the Black Sea Fleet. Putin is pretty toothless on this one.

The largest challenge for Russia isn’t winning the war; not in the sense that the “special military operation” is running swimmingly, it’s just that they could conceivably lose militarily and still achieve their REAL goal. Which is not “denawtfing Ukraine” or anything like that.
The real challenge and goal is convincing Russian population that they’re on the right side of history and that Putin is doing the right thing and should receive visible public support come next election in 15 months. Naturally they’ll fake the election results and rig the list of candidates, but they need it to look vaguely plausible, vaguely legitimate. All international proclamations are part of domestic PR campaign.
Fact of the matter is, people haven’t been happy with Putin as of late. One and a quarter million people or more died in Russia as a consequence of COVID19 – not necessarily from the disease itself, but from the mismanagement of the medical system, half-hearted measures, and public mistrust towards the domestic vaccine which was the only one made available. The calculation was, a little swift and elegant international success could fix it, lift the nationalist spirits, just like it did in 2014 and 2008. Now this obviously hasn’t quite worked out, but they might well turn it around into the next best thing. They’ve actually been vaguely successful with this, the imagery Russians see is not of missiles hitting residential blocks, but Russian soldiers standing around idly and handing out “humanitarian aid”. When they knock out central heating in Kharkiv, it’s “damaging vital military power infrastructure”. When a mass grave becomes impossible to hide any longer, it’s either “Ukrainian savage n-words shooting each other” or “amateur theatre performance for the camera, they’re actually still moving”. Most Russians are entirely detached from reality. One of the main narratives is that they’re fighting “the combined force of NATO”, which, well, where’s the shame in losing against the mighty and evil USA+UK?
Don’t mind that this doesn’t create a cohesive logical framework. The propaganda works on an emotional rather than logical level. Some people will believe it no matter what because they don’t want to feel like they’re on the wrong side of history and supported this monster, others will believe it in the absence of direct juxtaposition of contradictions, lacking independent media.
Russia didn’t reverse anything. They just accepted that they didn’t have the power to stop it. At least not without attacking Turkish naval vessels, costing them one of the few countries in the region that can even tolerate them at this point in time
It should be noted that as Turkey is part of NATO, if Russia attacked one of their ships the Russian Black Sea fleet would be on the ocean floor by the end of the day

@Riverside Garden Radio Ukrainian energy infrastructure is damaged – so what? It’s only bad for the city residents. Rural houses usually keep themselves warm with traditional wood stoves. People in the city are having to find ways around that, shelter together sharing generators outside, move to where there is heat and power, it’s rough but nothing they haven’t prepared for.
And military? It runs on diesel anyway, they just roll out a generator! Rail as well, diesel powered. Ukrainian Rail isn’t fully electrified, and where it is electrified, it’s two competing power standards, so all longer distance cargo loads run diesel hybrid locomotives.
The… mobilised forces. Yeah about that. Given the level of competence and performance Russian troops from active service displayed, which was very… mixed to be EXTRA generous, how much of a difference is a bunch of people going to make, that hadn’t held a gun in decades and didn’t volunteer to be there? Within a few months, they might get a little better at that gun holding thing, but their motivation level isn’t about to improve, and they’re facing half a million ANGRY, NATO-trained Ukrainians… Keep in mind this isn’t just a military on military confrontation. Civilians in Ukraine greatly lighten the load of the military by providing reconnaissance behind enemy lines and doing lots of non-frontline tasks and forming resistance brigades, the whole population of the country is behind the Ukrainian military. Ukraine has a massive home turf advantage.

By indiscriminately attacking Ukraine’s civilian infrastructure they have actually attacked the weakest and sickest which makes Russia the cruelest nation since Nazi Germany. Their cruelty is therefore unparalleled. Eventually they will face global judgment and condemnation for their actions towards civilians and the Ukrainian nation who have done nothing against Russia but stand up to them. The Russians being the aggressors, the latter will see that history is never very kind to them. You can’t trust a thing that Putin says except only that he will say what he wants you to believe for his benefit. Listen to his words to know what he is saying, but listen to his actions to know what they mean. Sometimes, we just have to do what we think is right in response to his actions and not be afraid.
