Revealed: The Strongest Case For Impeaching Trump Is Bribery | The Beat With Ari Melber | MSNBC

Pres. Trump faces many potential grounds for impeachment, but the strongest is one of two impeachment offenses specifically spelled out in the Constitution — bribery. Ari Melber, MSNBC’s Chief Legal Correspondent and an attorney, reports how the House could apply the bribery provision to impeach Trump, walking through the legal rules and mounting evidence against the President. Melber also discusses some of the defenses available to Trump, and contrasts a focus on bribery to past impeachment efforts that have bogged down on how to define a “high crime.” Aired on 10/23/19.

    1. @Paul _ At least he isn’t a lying, racist, fascist, traitorous, puss-grabbing Republican pig. Give our regards to Putin, Paul

    2. The Dem Congressmen in Trump districts are running scared. The conservative districts think this is another hoax like the Russian hoax. These congressman do not want a public vote for impeachment, because they will lose their pay checks. The world is burning up, and Trump is making big decisions about finally getting out of the Middle East, and not one Prog will even come to the table to discuss. Trade is on the table, school choice needs to be discussed, Chicago teachers are on strike, and could care less about the kids, Trudeau has just been handed a conservative legislature, so Canada comes into play. The IG is about to show what the DEMS and PROGS have done for the past four years. What do the Progs do? Absolutely nothing for three years. Gabby has just taken down Hillary, and not one person running for Pres on the DNC ticket is electable. All the Progs can do is lie about impeachment, and it is costing a fortune.

    3. This is shaping up to be One for the History Books.—–Trump impeached by the Dem controlled House, shortly thereafter being Re-elected in an LANDSLIDE.

    1. @bingbonga binga So Trump is making the world a better place right?
I’m sure the Kurd’s and Israel would have a different view about that.
I’m sure Russia and Putin would agree with you though.

    1. This is SO FAR past impeachable it’s ridiculous. The Causes for Which a President Can Be Impeached:
From the January, 1867 edition of the Atlantic Monthly:
“The terms “high crimes and misdemeanors,” in their natural sense, embrace a very large field of actions. They are broad enough to cover all criminal misconduct of the President, — all acts of commission or omission forbidden by the Constitution and the laws. To the word “misdemeanor,” indeed, is naturally attached a yet broader signification, which would embrace personal character and behavior as well as the proprieties of official conduct. Nor was, nor is, there any just reason why it should be restricted in this direction; for, in establishing a permanent national government, to insure purity and dignity, to secure the confidence of its own people and command the respect of foreign powers, it is not unfit that civil officers, and most especially the highest of all, the head of the people, should be answerable for personal demeanor.

The term “misdemeanor” was likewise used to designate all legal offences lower than felonies, — all the minor transgressions, all public wrongs, not felonious in character. The common law punished whatever acts were productive of disturbance to the public peace, or tended to incite to the commission of crime, or to injure the health or morals of the people, — such as profanity, drunkenness, challenging to fight, soliciting to the commission of crime, carrying infection through the streets, — an endless variety of offences.

These terms, when used to describe political offences, have a signification coextensive with, or rather analogous to, but yet more extensive than their legal acceptation; for, as John Quincy Adams said, “the Legislature was vested with power of impeaching and removing for trivial transgressions beneath the cognizance of the law.”

    2. @Cocoa Liveson What you forgot to state is, I think it was Thomas Jefferson who said an impeachment of a President should never be a partisan action?

So far, 3 votes to impeach Trump have failed in the House so maybe the 4th will be a charm? This time Shifty Shiff is doing it behind closed doors and having hidden meetings with whistle-blowers. And Trump is alleged to be a Fascist?

Why hasn’t Trump been Impeached yet? Another possibility may be, just like the Russian Hoax was/is a hoax, maybe you are being lied to AGAIN.

    3. @Saltponds239 I can see by your post, that you have never read or you have forgotten the Constitution of the United States of America. These committees you speak of are have both Democrats and Republicans. Each of these committees are made up like a grand jury, who meet behind closed doors to gather evidence and testimony to see if a trial is needed. If the evidence gathered warrant a trial then the entire house votes to send it to the Senate for trial. The House of Representatives CAN NOT Remove the President on there own. The Senate is where that will happen.

    1. @Paul _ I admit, your mental illness is hilarious! But you really ought to seek professional help with your delusions, asap.

    2. @Paul _
You don’t have to be ignorant, you know – you could actually LEARN something! Di Biden do it? YES! Did Trump? ABSOLUTELY! So, what is the difference? It is the difference between a soldier fighting for his country, and a mercenary fighting for the highest bidder. They do the same thing, but for different reasons. That’s while you will never see a “Tomb of the Unknown Mercenaries”. Biden did what he did in furtherance of long standing US, NATO, EU, and IMF foreign policy goals Contrary to the lies on the right, Hunter Biden was never under investigation, and the investigation into Burisma was dropped long before Biden got the Prosecutor removed. There was no personal incentive. And since Biden was living in the USA, the Ukrainians couldn’t touch him anyway, and I seriously doubt that they would dare go after the son of a sitting VP anyway. That’s why no one ever tried to hide what he did.
Trump did what he did for personal gain. If it had been legitimate, he had an excellent, experienced ambassador who could have gotten the job done through proper channels – he had two of them actually, and neither would go along with this scheme. So he had to use cronies like Giuliani, Sondland, Perry, and of course, good old Lev and Igor! Even John Bolton wouldn’t go along with this garbage saying, “I don’t want to be involved in whatever drug deal these guys are cooking up.” It’s also the reason he doesn’t want to use the FBI to investigate – they will uncover the truth, and he doesn’t want that. And as if ALL that weren’t enough, one of the main things Trump wanted was for the Ukrainian President to PUBLICLY announce the investigation of Biden! That goes totally against normal. proper investigative procedure, but it has to be made public, or Trump couldn’t use it to smear Biden! Read Taylor’s opening statement – it lays out the crimes quite well, and ties them straight to Trump.

  1. Trump thinks the constitution is phony. I can only imagine how much he values his marriage contract. I look forward to the day Melania serves him the divorce papers.

  2. Trump has committed multiple acts of high crimes & misdemeanors. His punishment should be impeachment followed by imprisonment.

    1. @ROCK VOCALIST
Wow. Because someone has an opinion that does not match yours you want them to die. Did you smother puppies, kitties and baby birds as a child?

    1. @AWMK101 They don’t understand big words like “emoluments” and “obstruction.” All they know is “Boo boo think like me. Boo boo mad. Me must help Boo boo. BOO BOO 2020!”

    1. Scrap them all. And i mean all. Time for some fresh young faces. These folks with all their money should retire…old ways of thinking.
      Not to mention corrupt criminals.

    2. You are right, but “Individual One” will have to leave office before he can be brought to justice. Actually, his best option is to resign a la Nixon to get a blanket pardon from Pence.

    3. @Some Guy Pence can’t pardon him for state crimes. And accepting a pardon for federal crimes is an admission of guilt.

  3. There are just too many Trump worshipers in Republican party. Just in case we can’t remove this piece of garbage from office, we need to get out and vote him out 2020.

    1. Democrats did not and do not get to win against this president. Democrats do not get to define this president’s behavior and do not get to place limits on his behavior.

  4. It doesn’t matter if the Constitution specifically names bribery as a crime. This president declared the emoluments clause in the Constitution as phony.

    1. Why Americans allowed someone like Donald Trump’s to be a president of USA,
who is corrupt and bribery to foreign leader for favours and to benefit his owned
political interests and asking Russian, China and Ukraine and which country next
and may be north Korea next and I think it’s all to do with money..
      United Kingdom viewers..

    1. @ Elmer Goering new poll just out 1 in 3 Trump supporters is as stupid as the other 2 and you just proved it my friend.

    2. @Elmer Goering
And that’s why you’re a gullible moron. Trusting Trump, is a stupid thing to do, and that can be proven mathematically and empirically.
You’re the reason most things have to have safety warnings on them…
