The PM going overseas on the biggest stage talking about global warming and the environment, and look at is country it’s a shame, on this is why I don’t listen to politicians.
Should the PM feel shame? I’m sure you should be the one that feels shame, Jamaicans should feel shame!
@R. Walcott why should I I am not contribute to the nastiness that going on down there.
Poor Garbage collection poor jamaica road system poor jamaica food crisis poor children getting bite up by mostquie and disease poor health poor everything Jamaica needs a better system
Do you mean to tell me that there is no money anywhere or no one wealthy enough in Jamaica or overseas to purchase or donate more trucks to help with this crisis? This mess is just not a priority to the powers that be. Very concerning.
They could care less. If it is not impacting them directly, it doesn’t matter to them. What affects some now will eventually affect all. It is only a matter of time. So let all live free and comfortable because what they don’t see and fail to see is what is coming around the bend and it will be something they nor their money can protect or rescue them from🤷🏽♀️. JUST SAYING
I always say if Jamaicans want better they need to step out and speak strong to the Leaders it is simple there is so much going on there and the minds of the ones that are in distraction won’t heal it’s sad to see all that’s happening
This is a result of squandering of funds…and lack of accountability..
Create partnerships between the government and residents of each community to have the gullies inspected and cleaned even once per month. This can be a business opportunity for several individuals. Have regular communications with residents about their responsibilities and benefits of proper disposal of garbage. There’s a solution for every problem. Who is willing to be a part of the solution instead of complaining and being a part of the problem? Be the change that you want to see.
Great Idea incentives the cleaning of gullies and rivers.
@R. Walcott Not saying that the government doesn’t have its part to play but a lot of Jamaicans look to the government for everything, not understanding that it’s the private sector that drives the growth of the economy, from small to large businesses, transforming lives, communities and country. Garbage collection is a multi-million dollar industry. A few Jamaicans just need to come together, work out a plan and contract with the government, even starting with a pickup truck. I can bet that if the Chinese or other foreigners come and create a business out of this, it’s the same Jamaicans who are going to cry about foreigners taking their jobs. Business is in some people’s blood and they look for opportunities in every situation. The person who cleans the sewer smells money while everyone else is smelling filth. It’s just a matter of perspective. Does one person in these communities have a pickup truck? Can that person find 9 more residents to work with? Give us vision lest we perish.
Both parties of government don’t care , you really can’t blame it all on the citizens if the government don’t have a good routing on picking up garbage…I believe once the government have a better system it can be better. Any citizens throw garbage in a place we’re is not suppose to be get a fine
You have a government who doesn’t care, you will find a population of citizens who don’t care either. In the longer run every single soul suffer.🤷🏽♀️ NO ONE WILL ESCAPE CALAMITY WHEN TRIBULATIONS AND TRIAL BECOME INCREASINGLY WORST. TRUST AND BELIEVE THEY WILL AS THE SCRIPTURES MAKE IT KNOW. WE ARE LIVING IN THE LAST DAYS 💎2 TIMOTHY 3:1-5🤷🏽♀️. Brace yourselves because you all ain’t see nothing yet.
@C S Respectfully, you need to knock off the religious bs. This is a human-created problem, & we humans need to – & can – solve it.
No one is pointing at citizens only, but you cannot deny that persons mindset about garbage disposal is trash.
This like many other issues in Jamaica has been going on for years and has not been addressed.
Waste management is a crisis situation in Jamaica.
Now that this problem is acknowledged, what is the remedy?
There’s not one magic solution; it takes several parts. Let’s pick one: Generate less trash! Less plastic wrap on veggies, fruits, etc; phase in ban on plastic bags & find way to encourage reusable bags more, eventually banning importation of such; borrow the tech to actually use discarded plastic bottles for things like building materials, etc, while moving towards ban on single-use plastics, etc etc.
the terrible music aside its a good video.
I visited jamaica in the summer and was ashamed to see the amount of garbage pileup. I do agree that jamaicans should take some responsibility for how they dispose of their garbage, but the government has to do their part. It amazes me how complacent this government is when it comes to anything that benefits the poor.
Disrespect for each other…for fellow citizens goes hand in hand with disrespect for the environment🤷🏽♀️. The society is deteriorating faster than you can blink with all types of calamitous conditions and violence and life’s daily struggles, the last thing people are probably thinking about is the environment and keeping it clean. It usually catches us with them however when the drains get blocked and the streets get flooded and not to mention the potential for unhealthy conditions and disease. Folks sometimes just need to deal with the consequences for their action, unfortunately. LEARNING THE LESSON THE HARD WAY🤷🏽♀️
Take your own safety and protection in your hands they say because you cannot deep depend on a government who has proven time and time again have no interest, will or desire to mitigate potential problems before they arise, not be proactive, etc. THEY DON’T SEEM TO CARE AND IN TURN THE PEOPLE DON’T CARE.
We are in the last days 💎2 Timothy 3:1-5 SO BRACE YOURSELVES BECAUSE IT IS GOING TO GET WORST. Tribulation unlike anything is going to be upon us. It will end when Jesus returns🤷🏽♀️.
I love my island Jamaica not to defend the bad dumping practices. am a frequent flyer when I go to other countries there are proper disposal bins almost every ten steps you take . so without the right thing put in place to dispose the garbage then its going to be tossed any and every where.
True we need more bins in public spaces, but people also steal and destroy them. Many Jamaicans don’t care about their communities.
I live in the United States. Louisiana to be exact. We are no better. Everywhere you look you see trash. Its a disgrace.
Some of us Jamaica need to do better as well. I hate see people on a daily basis throwing items anywhere instead of a near by bin! It’s a shame of us and also the government who doesn’t seem to know how to address this problem.
The government is slack, and the people fear no different . The whole structure of Jamaica need fixing up, and the gullys should always be cleaned at all times , not just from garbage, but also growing trees, and grass .
The government of Jamaica 🇯🇲 and his cronies do not have any garbage trow all over they neighborhood, only the poor people neighborhood you find these things, when ever the out break of a deases happens in Jamaica 🇯🇲 it is going to be in every one home 🏡 Jamaica 🇯🇲 is back ward,no infrastructure of good quality roads, no infrastructure of good quality health care, does not have enough police 🚨 or teachers, nurses, Dr, vehicle, for police 🚨 ambulance 🚑, garbage trucks, lawless, no infrastructure for running water 💦 in most of the parish, people still have to be buying water 💦 from trucks, Jamaica 🇯🇲 should never shortage of water 💦 it is too much rivers were the government could use to build reservoir to get water 💦 supplies for the Jamaicans people, Andrew Holnes you are nothing but a dictator,
Just shows how much we have progress as a Nation!!!! ….. Not even GARBAGE we can dispose off properly..!!!
Jamaicans Jamaica belongs to you not the tourists, not the Chinese!!
you the people are the government! remember that…
When they start finding them it may change their behavior, because it has to start somewhere because some Jamaicans hate to pay unnecessary bill per se.
The environmental organization RACE. has long presented the potential solution which has been long ignored. This approach would undoubtedly address the concerns being voiced. Sadly, the People with solutions continue to be ignored.
He has recommended a cessation of the Fixed Bin approach replaced by a Mobile Bin approach where vans the size of. F150 can pull the bins mounted on trailers to a central collection depo. Limiting the need for Trucks to do wayside collection. This would prevent the fomentation of garbage and the breeding of rodents due to the daily removal exercise. RACE Restoring A Clean Environment.

Solid waste management should be privatised in Jamaica.
