Director General of the Russian International Affairs Council Andrey Kortunov says Russia has not done anything like mobilization in this century, and that using a nuclear weapon in Ukraine “makes little sense” for Putin. Watch his interview with CNN’s Christiane Amanpour. #CNN #News

  1. At the begin of February 2022 no one expected Ukraine to almost hold the lines after 1 Month, Now, Russia is not retreating. They are simply demonstrating that their troops are superior at running long distance than Ukrainian troops. 😂

  2. I’d of thought, the Russian public must remember the suffering of WW2. Maybe not directly, but from stories from elders.

    1. My elders said they got average of 5 childs with local people during Vietnam war. Worth to fight if you still live in the mom’s basement with no touch of society.

    2. They absolutely do remember it. There’s a reason why they launched a disastrous, overreaction of a war to prevent the country through which they were invaded by Germany (leading to 20 million+ deaths) from integrating into/establishing interoperability with NATO (a military alliance which was conceived of and expanded for the purpose of countering and undermining Soviet/Russian interests).

  3. Deep condolences to all mother, father, children and family who lost their lives in this war. Slava Ukraine🇺🇦🇺🇦

    1. This is sad across the board. No hope for would-be dictators.. Hopefully people who have grown tired of democracy and long for a dictatorship have learned their lesson.

  4. Ukrainian soldiers have certainly earned the world’s respect. They have been nothing short of amazing in the defense of their beloved homeland.

    1. fearless and fearsome in defense of their homeland and to prevent a genocide promised by warlord in chief pooptin and his rampaging horde of war criminals. Slava ❤️🇺🇦❤️ Ukraini

  5. I have been in Ukraine twice since the beginning of the war and shall be back again this month. One thing that needs to be pointed out is how high moral is in Ukraine, even at a time when it was possible that the enemy could win. On the other hand, the amount of indiscriminate destruction by the enemy is horrendous.

    1. I’m so sorry we’re is God when you need him the most God bless you chef I’m also a chef let’s get together and start a restaurant lol

  6. My Father was from the city of Uman in the Ukraine. Huge respect to all of those brave people fighting for our land. Love to all from Australia xx

    1. Maybe Assies can send some large dogs to Ukraine, as winter approaches. There may be some 2 dog, … or even 3 dog nights ahead.

    2. @Gerry Lee I was in a R&R band in northern Thailand. One of the guitarists was half Mongolian. He was a nut. Friendly, sure, but drank heavily and would sometimes fall off the stage.

    3. Just one small note: Ukraine should not be referred to as “The Ukraine”. That term was used when Ukraine was a part of the Soviet Union. Most Ukrainians find it offensive.

  7. This guy/intellect is “treading very carefully”….he clearly understands the situation but is Ill at ease to be honest 😊

    1. But he also refrained from contradicting the interviewer’s pro Ukraine statements, which is already plenty brave of him.

    2. look at this guy squirm – he obviously didnt enjoy some of the questions, but not allowed to say anything contrary to the putin narrative

  8. He is in Russia. He can’t openly criticise Putin on international media, his personal safety would be jeopardised. So he has to choose his words very carefully

    1. It’s even a little surprising how candid he is. When he first started talking I assumed he must be in exile.

  9. Christiane, a gripping interview style. Sadly my first exposure to your work but I shall most certainly be seeking it more in the future. Thank you!

    1. Christine is one of the best in the business and has been around for many years. I can say I look for her on the news and special reports.

  10. God save and protect Ukraine and its people. My condolences for all mothers who have lost family members. Putin is a psychopath and people are dying due to Putin’s war.

  11. This guy is in Russia, he’s not going to be 100% honest because he cannot be, for safety reasons.

  12. Slava Ukraine! Taiwanese people have been watching for you, and we pray for you in the name of Taiwan (ROC).

    1. @deadpool Are you in a country without protected speech?

If there was an actual discrepancy between what I posted and the reality of US foreign policy, I’d need a credible source.

I can’t make any corrections and/or retraction to my comments if I don’t know what you’re talking about.

  13. Brave Man, risking going to a Siberian Gulag no matter his position, but he’s somewhat realistic yet still guarded with his words

  14. Ukrainian soldiers are showing incredible bravery in this War.
Really hope it works out for them 🇺🇦

    1. I politely disagree. The guy clearly could not talk freely, so he could not really answer her most pressing questions, and he had to hold out hope that Winter and increased mobilization of desk.workers will change the preparedness of the Russian army. Not very satisfying to listen to these non-answers.
