A: Very few of us want to live in an authoritarian styled monarchy and
B: If we did, we would not pick a family of dimwits to rule over us, although some would, 60% plus of us would not.
You don’t “pick” an authoritarian monarch.
@O. B. You pick the first one. A person gets into power and erodes the checks and balances that encumber their authoritarian nature. Many dictators are democratically elected, then burn the bridge behind them.
@O. B. Thus the choice of the word “style”. I am assuming we would still be living in a semi democracy society and we would not choose to elect dimwits that would follow in their fathers authoritarian style.
@nonamesleftdammit Great post, agree. I am often skeptical of the whole “slippery slope” argument, but in the case of how countries go from democracies to authoritarian states, it is very applicable and the way you succinctly laid it out, is spot on.
