Ketanji Brown Jackson sworn in as Supreme Court judge

Ketanji Brown Jackson, a former public defender and Miami native who rose to become a judge on a powerful federal appeals court, will make history Thursday when she is sworn in as the first Black woman to serve on the Supreme Court.

Jackson, 51, a Harvard-trained lawyer who was confirmed by the Senate nearly three months ago, will take the seat occupied by Associate Justice Stephen Breyer for nearly three decades. Breyer announced his retirement in January, clearing the way for President Joe Biden to name Jackson as his first pick for the nation's highest court.

Currently a judge on the powerful U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, Jackson will take the oath of office at a fraught moment for the high court, as its decisions to overturn Roe v. Wade and expand access to handguns have exacerbated tensions among the justices and underscored divisions among Americans over culture war issues.

    1. @Sedrick C I’m sure she could. However, she perhaps was prudent not to open the topic, and focus on her qualifications for sc justice. (I’m not defending or opposing)

    2. @Jules Laabs pretty sure being able to find a woman is important to something as immensely powerful as the rare position of a supreme court judge.

    3. @Sedrick C if you think a grown woman dosn’t know what she is you have no standing in anything worth talking about. She didn’t answer because she KNEW it was a gotcha question. They wanted to hold her up with transgender questions…

    4. @tony smith it wasn’t a “gotcha” question. It was an action to reveal her awful gender ideology and it worked. The definition of a woman is a human adult female. PERIOD.

  1. I got chills, and some tears. Congratulations to Justice Brown Jackson, the most qualified justice to be appointed to SCOTUS in many years.

    1. @SnowmanYT so in your world it doesnt matter what the person’s views are or their qualifications, the only thing you care about is race? this is called tribalism and it is very bad for people who claim to be civilized.

    1. @Rodger Woods may be some woman will stand up though what’s right. Like Britain Margaret Thatcher

    1. 1) Served as U.S.circuit judge of the United States court of appeals.
      2) Vice chair of U.S sentencing commission.
      3) Bachelors from Harvard.
      4) Law degree from Harvard law school.

    2. @Jules Laabs none of those qualification’s where considered in the selection…just two that you didn’t mention

  2. So does she make the coffee for everyone following tradition of being the newby? Or she ain’t playin dat ?

    1. Lol this the first funny comment I’ve read about this because I wonder if they do it🤔😆😆

  3. She becomes the first African American ‘birthing person’ on the U.S. Supreme Court according to A O-C (her own weird language reacting to the Roe decision)! But it’s not that weird apparently. Remember in her nomination hearing, *Brown-Jackson when asked to give the definition of a woman said she couldn’t!*

    1. That was a stupid question to ask anyways. I’m glad she didn’t feed into their stupidity 🙄
