In looking up the Falun Gong, I read that they are for truthfulness, compassion, and forbearance. Yet this group, like the white evangelicals, have aligned themselves with the dishonest, cruel, and intolerant Trump. Perhaps it is a mutual insanity that brings these types (including QAnon) together. I am certainly seeing the mental health issues here.

Well, they were following a man who said he could fly. But a long with that it’s also greed.
Once you allow yourself to believe in consiracy theories and going down those rabbit holes, you find it easier and easier to accept things that are untrue, unproven and unprovable, and to find connections where there aren’t any. This is what happens with religion of all kinds, but also when people get into conspiracy networks, or when they join cults, or extreme “clubs” and associations. As someone else pointed out, the NRA has become one such extreme social group. There are others like the antivax community, alt right groups, and even to some extent Antifa and similar political action groups. The more you associate with them, the more you limit your other sources of information, and the further you are likely to stray in your thinking. Trump has become a focal point for so much of the “crazy” thinking of these kinds of focalizing groups. Individually, they can’t do much harm, but when they all support the same cult of personality leader… It’s just another good reason to avoid religion and to be wary of joining into “communities” that share fringe ideas.
Tax all Churches & houses of worship especially Evangelical & Falun Gong/Dafa because they do not respect the separation between Church & State!

No. We do not shut down cults just because we view them as cults. It is literally in the Consitution. If they specifically threaten a person or organization, they can be prosecuted for that. But shutting down cults leads to shutting down religions you don’t like, political groups you don’t like, clubs you don’t like, social movements you don’t like… Christianity was a cult. And as an atheist, I would LOVE for Christianity to just disappear, but not like that. You don’t end cults by using the govt. to suppress them. That’s how you feed the paranoia and create widespread sympathy and support for them. They go underground, fester and grow.
