Before and after video shows parts of Louisiana hit by Hurricane Ida | USA TODAY

Security footage from the St. Bernard Parish government shows areas in Delacroix, La. before and after they were hit by Hurricane Ida.

RELATED:

The storm caused at least one death after slamming into Louisiana's coast on Sunday and knocked out power to all of New Orleans while inundating coastal Louisiana communities.

Snapped trees, flipped trucks, submerged cars and flooded streets were just some of the scenes as the storm wreaked havoc and temporarily reversed the Mississippi River's flow near Belle Chase, according to preliminary data from the U.S. Geological Survey.

    1. People can say their deepest sympathies to everyone affected and mean it. We were hit by Laura, Delta, a winter storm, and a flood in the last year here in SWLA, but when we say we’re praying for you, we mean it. And we put words to actions. We don’t sit around waiting for the government to save us. We get to work and help each other clean up and rebuild. To say that people can’t be genuine in their sympathies just hurts the people actually suffering. If all someone can provide is solidarity, that goes a long way when you’re hurting and recovering from something like this. We understand not everyone can just pack up their trucks, roll up their sleeves, and get to work helping. There is more than one way to help someone.

    2. @alicehaslonghair if it were a big enough issue for people to get out it wouldn’t just be a matter of helping out. It would be a necessity to clear the area that frequently floods because it below sea level. Mother nature always wins. I’m not throwing my money in a pond that wants to fill up.

    3. @alicehaslonghair glad to hear an opinion from someone that’s actually been affected by a hurricane before.

    4. if you are not saved, and would like to be included in the rapture of the church. Believe that Jesus’s death on the cross, was enough to pay for ALL your sins , yes ALL ,(past, present and future) That is what the Gospel is about. We are saved by GOD’S amazing grace, through our faith in Jesus’s sinless life, death on the cross and resurrection 3 days later . No additional works needed. It is literally that simple. Do it today, don’t delay. Time is short. Ephesians 2:8-9 Romans 10:9-10

    1. Here I was sitting and thinking I’d be the only one thinking the same thing O_O added this to my music playlist

    1. @CornPopNeverDies I’ve fished offshore South Florida for 34 years, haven’t noticed any land loss. Moved to Kentucky a couple years ago, by an extensive cave system, only gone on a couple guided tours. I’m not to big on caving, but l know people that do it.

  1. Please pray for everybody in Louisiana I have family and friends down there and I have been able to get in touch with them and I pray that everyone that was affected by this comes out strong and OK. Sending love and blessings and prayers from southern Virginia

  2. Imagine how much worse it would have been if they didn’t spend $14B in improvements since Katrina to “prevent” future flooding.

    1. @Curry Curry After Katrina, states stepped up and took in refuges. I know Mass did because as we flew out they were flying in.

    2. @Gemini Woodworks Whether you doubt it or not is irrelevant. This person made a mistake and a scumbag is attacking them. And you’re defending the scumbag. Again, not a lot of logic seems to be used here.

    3. That is the amount the oil companies were sued for for causing damages to wetland which reduces the levies protection.

    1. @malik I think 2012 is more accurate except they wrote the date wrong it was really supposed to say 2021. Lol

  3. What scary about this is that its heading our way here in Western NC.
We just had a massive flood a week ago.
    Now this again

    1. I’m litterly just over the hill from Haywood in TN , when Haywood flooded it backed our rivers up to, not really destructive and dangerous like y’all had though , I hear they will probably be closing some roads around here due to wind and rockslide potential , be safe

    2. @カイルアーロンロザリオ it got to do with the amount of rain it brings our ground is already saturated, so it all runs into the creeks and rivers. Thats what causes the flooding

    3. @TikiFlukes its got nothing to do with what its doing in Louisiana, its a got everything to do with how much rain it brings up here. We just had major flooding in the mountains, our ground is already saturated. Anymore rain will cause major flooding all over again.

  4. I’m thinking of all the people that they interviewed that decided to stay because “I’ve been through these all my life”

    1. @CHloE748 no they have all year to walk somewhere but no they choose to sit there and wait for it to come back year after year

    2. @Arca Jeth they know this could happen every year but yet they sit around and wait kind of stupid so
      start walking

    3. @DODGE 450r If you look at population maps, people are usually in high numbers in areas they shouldnt actually live., Our second biggest city is built in an area with no fresh water source. I feel like we would be better off if everything were destroyed at once and we could rebuild in areas better suited for human beings.. This will never happen because of the slow clapping for the supposed brave people who always seem to just say ” we will just rebuild” as if this is something to be admired instead of stupidity begging to be ridiculed..

    4. @Kirk Maxwell seems like you live in your head and not reality my friend. It’s not as easy as typing what you can do/would do in a comment section. This is real life, get a grip.

  5. What a change in a short period of time! Weather can be so damaging and devastating!!! Prayers go out to all those affected by the hurricane and any other devastating disasters ❤️‍🩹

    1. Thankfully, there was a beer ad. Otherwise, i don’t know how i would cope with these devastating images.

  6. Well, another reminder to make sure we build future structures that can more than withstand these sea current/level rises, and wind speeds. Hope as many people make it to safety as possible.

  7. Would be nice to know the locations for these images. The opening thumbnail shows a sign for LaPlace, but then the opening scene is at a fire station in Delacroix, which is on the opposite side of New Orleans from LaPlace. And then there are no other identifying signs or labels. Kind of frustrating for people to evacuated and want to get an idea what things are like close to their homes.
