As if anyone is stupid enough to go in the middle of a pandemic to a country which has less then 10% vaccined 🤷…..but hey…let’s hold a bunch of games anyway.👏

The Japanese government banned the spectators → Why? → They managed the quarantine poorly. → The current government was elected by who? → The Japanese people. → So other political parties will win the next election? → Nope. Not a chance. → Why? → Whatever the current ruling party does to Japan, the Japanese people will keep voting for them. → Why? → It’s been like that for years. → So it’s their fate caused by their own choices.

The people of Japan by a vast majority would like to see another postponement, while the government continues to seek some form of return on its investment of the billions spent on Olympics related infrastructure. Its looking more and more like a no win.

The Olympics in 2024 are already assigned to another country. The only way to postpone further is to cancel altogether. Winter events start in eight months.
So sad to have to continue re-scheduling due to covid, but it has to be done. I will watch the events as they are telecast and I hope that helps Japan and the athletes and the networks have a little bit of an experience. Countries have to spend way, way too much to host an Olympics, and this will be an economic loss as well as a disappointed to those with Olympic dreams.

They can’t postpone it. Contractually they cant. Also, many athletes don’t want to miss this opportunity after training so hard for this moment.

It’s on too late.
It already was postponed, as it was supposed to take place last year. Two years is a long time in the lifetime of an athlete, and another year of postponement might mean some Olympic hopefuls never get to compete at their peak.
More than 20% of Japan’s population is over 65 years old, the highest proportion in the world. With only about 15% of the Japanese being vaccinated and having the world highest proportion in the world of older people and the influx of people for the Olympics, it will spread the virus and cause increase in hospitalization and increase in death in the local population.
Japan really did it right at the start of CV19. You stayed home or where you’re at and a medical team comes to you. Way better than infecting the public.

@1954Stevied Not the same at all! Japan decided to place health and lives over money. If MO decided to cancel travel to their state I say fine, it’d be logical!
@Rip Sumrall That’s a faulty assumption. People might have ended up being safer in Tokyo than where they stayed by NOT going to Tokyo or where they ended up going because of NOT going to Tokyo. We don’t know and we can’t assume it. I’m just saying Japan threw away alot of money based on so much uncertainty.

From Japan’s perspective they are protecting THIER people, not necessarily those who travel there. The government’s main job is to protect their citizens. Not maximize profit.
They better have multiple cameras and big screens for those that travel there. What a huge economic loss for Japan.

All that money put into grandstands and no one will sit in them. What a shame. This should have been a huge revenue producer for Japan but is nothing but a big black monetary hole.

I don’t understand this. Why do you have the olympics in the first place while this pandemic is still spreading? This is all to do with greed!

Me too, but it’s that or don’t have the Olympics at all, and that hurts the athletes. The winter Olympics are literally eight months away.
So why have the games at all,its all about watching the athletes at the games.
