if a group of people united by a race/ethnicity/religion etc has tragedy strike them, then their group of belonging should be reported on….
Their group belonging implies unique narratives, stories and lived experiences that help put the story into a more socially aware context

That sounds like close minded bigoted thinking, after all, we are all one humanity. To add these artificial designations only creates cultural differentialism, which ensures that conflict between the alleged outgroup and the group holding the supremacist viewpoints remain separate. This whole ‘Them or Us’ mentality has got to be retired into the dustbin of antiquated socially corrupt idealism.

1964 Japan’s first bullet trains were put in service and the the first Beatles album was released.
1998 China started the construction of 36,000km of high speed railways and high speed trains.
2021 US still has NO high speed trains and NO safe overpasses or apartment blocks.
I rode on a Japanese bullet train in 1968, and was amazed. We still don’t have high speed rail in the US, even though we were told we’d have a mag-lev train at Expo 86, 35 years ago.

We need more sympathy for the chosen
Why is this news? I’d expect Jewish, Hindi, or anything else to possibly be part of the community there. My heart breaks equally for everyone involved regardless of faith.
