@Ben Wilson Actually, oil are very damaging to the development of fish, and it does not take much oil to have an effect. Only a Couple of drops per m3 have a damaging effect. I’ll try to find the report, though I read it around 2014.
I have not gotten myself to read any reports on the effects plastic have though. Bur it is on my to do list. But the good thing about plastic though is that it can sink to the bottom and go out of «circulation».

@Space Lemur Mama fed me well and put me in the right schools. My education sings on the sails of the Mayflower and my investment portfolio has fully matured. Staying invested in Big Oil or other fossil fuel companies isn’t a gamble. Their money is already invested in the right places and has been for decades. They knew this was coming. Big Oil already owns 82% of the energy market outside of fossil fuels. I am well prepared. Thank you.
@Rebellc There ya go. Personally, I find investing at least as much a moral issue as financial. Other people disagree, but if a company has a tradition of anti-labor, anti-regulation, environmental degradation, and all those other typically liberal causes, I want my money elsewhere. Your return on investment will be greater than mine, but I have the peace of mind I prefer over that. 🍻

@Captain Win No? It’s not oil that was drilled. It is refined oil with chemicals mixed inbetween, mostly anorganic. It would create a layer of oil and oxygen would not be able to reach the marine environment causing the death of many fish.

@Michael Liles So? Water that’s laying around outside the ship is substantially less effective for fighting fire than water that’s being sprayed directly on the burning materials (except, of course, if the burning materials are things like oil, as I mentioned in my earlier message).

Have you ever seen an open pit mine, like the ones where the ingredients for batteries and electronics come from? There are many documented instances of mining tailings being released and creating environmental disasters or superfund sites here in the US. The contamination is much more persistent than hydrocarbons that readily break down in the environment. Not advocating that one source of energy is better, but they both have their issues. The manufacture of wind turbines is incredibly energy intensive. All that concrete, steel, aluminum and other material requires energy to be manufactured. Neither is “clean” as some would want you to think. Not to mention a huge amount of diesel fuel is consumed in mining operations, which I find kind of funny, considering the purpose is to create “clean energy”.
