Obama On Daunte Wright's Death: We Must 'Reimagine Policing' | The 11th Hour | MSNBC
‘Re-imagine policing’ is kinda a soft way of saying reforming and defunding the police, which is long overdue.
Resisting arrest and fleeing. Focus the problem on placing blame on Police!!! It has become a circus, and Black folks fail to take responsibility of their actions. Terrible what the family is going through. Does not take away the FACT, the Police officer did her job. Intelligence has nothing to do with being Smart. What exactly was he being arrested for, and why would anyone of ANY RACE be treated any differently?
@Paul Pederson without a clue.
@T Electronix they did it in Minneapolis…didnt last long cuz the huge crime wave
@Gregor Heisenhorn Yeah……that isn’t the case.
@T Electronix oh so the cities that are defunding police or have had police change thier tactics have not shown huge increases in crime. I bet you thought the peaceful protest happened.
Another ☝🏾
End qualified immunity so police like all other professions, go to work everyday understanding there are repercussions for unprofessional and negligent conduct.
Dont know if anyone cares at all but last night I hacked my gfs Instagram account by using InstaPwn. Find it on google 🙂
@Wesson Zion i am trying it out right now. Looks promising 🙂
i said the same thing
100%
American is apparently on rails nobody is going to stop anything if we can’t stop those who continue to probagate lies over and over again
A man who resist is responsible for the actions that follows he was in control of his actions and choose the one he knew would result in more Force being taken the officer is responsible for her actions as well but there needs to be some common sense about how the public reacts to these situations
He went back to the car to try and what? The officers were aware that his warrant was for a weapons charge it seems to me that they officers should have been handling it as a felony stop and maybe the officer wouldn’t be in situation
Something has to be done. We’ve talked and talked and talked out. Time for action. Start tomorrow
@Okkie Trooy Totally agree it’s not the kid’s fault! It’s a shame he ran…It doesn’t necessarily mean he was hiding something…he might very well have got ‘the talk’ from his parents not to resist understand that’s common, don’t know…I didn’t even know I needed to do that for my children course I’m white, I had no idea the police would do this kind of behavior to anyone but victim’s are not to blame cause they might panic and run…why didn’t they aim for the tires anyway??? police tactics for traffic situations that needs to come under total review this is unsafe for everyone! We all drive cars…4th amendment rights violated continuously. We have gone in the wrong directions allowing police too much powers…a culture of wrongdoing in the police departments, it’s beyond reimagining police policy.
@evan doe 🖕🏻
@Deborah Emielita People do panick in stressful situations. Maybe he realized if they take me in I will not be able to go to work, will lose my job and cannot provide for my son. Even being taken in for questioning will take time. It could cause not showing up for work etc. It was not a smart decision to try to flee (If that is what he was doing), but nothing agressie towards the police-officers and for sure not worth to be killed for.
The police could have prevented this, by placing one officer between the car and the “suspect”. That is professionalism.
I am from the Netherlands and I saw a video of an American guy about has experience with Dutch police. He was flabbergasted that he was treated with respect. Starts with a greeting; they changed to english because he didn’t speak Dutch. Explained the reason why they stopped him. Being a foreigner he understandably did not know a certain rule. Therefore, they let him go with a warning. Everyone said: have a Nice day, and went their way.
What struck me though, was that he said: They were very friendly and relaxed but there was something in them that made me really want to comply.
This is natural authority based on confidence and training. This is soft power and they are very well trained in it. Of course everybody knows that ultimately they can use hard power like guns but that is really the last resort.
@Okkie Trooy all great points yes I agree. Thanks I have had those encounters here myself for traffic situations but I’m appalled the video cams are showing a different Side …I can understand the frustration! Loss of life so unnecessary.
@Chris W her actions far outway his no matter what he did. She has to live with that and be punished.
They will do nothing!!! Just like before!!!
ABsolutely nothing.
Here’s what they could do nationally, make it a federal crime for a police officer to murder an unarmed subject. Boom. See how many officers want to spend time in federal prison. Accountability!
@look whats happening now she had a taser/gun and still didn’t know the difference. So what’s your point?
@Richard Moore it improves your chances. The ones hurt/ killed always resist.
@DREAMDAKING and why didn’t the police fire at the car tires…why fire at the person? Police have the training, victims do not have any training. I’m tired of the of blaming the victim it’s so sad to see an unnecessary death of a young person. 😓
@Deborah Emielita your exactly right. People always play the blame game when they’re not affected by the circumstances.
@Deborah Emielita he had a warrant out for his arrest
In my country these “police” wouldn’t even get past the personality test.
LOL
you do not know them…
that thought, that twisted sick thought… is all in *YOUR* head…
maybe you need to be ”tested.”
@Just Coz we’ve never had a cop
Mistake a gun for a taser champ. Only a mentally challenged person can make that mistake. Especially after doing the same job everyday for 26 years. If you think that’s acceptable by any standard you need to get tested. Did you see how small that kid was??? There were at least 3 cops around him in that video. They can never contain a situation. I don’t need to know anyone to see that.
They’d be in jail in my country. America has 34.8 police killings per 10 million of population per year. My country has 1.7 per 10 million. The situation over there is outrageous.
@Chris Arm Well said. Btw where is your country?. The USA is a shithole I need a place to go 🏌️♂️. …
@janeen harris exactly. These most of the idiots in this feed from the USA think this is normal. They think they’re the only country and the “best”. Haha
I’m wondering if a simple start to reforming police culture could be made as follows: a federal law or possibly just a presidential order mandating an online questionnaire to be filled in every time an officer unholsters their firearm. Initially, it would be a simple two minute exercise but over time it would get more onerous, so “repeat offenders” would end up spending an hour on line each time they went for their gun. It would need to be a serious offence to draw a weapon and fail to submit a form and an also be offence for any officer who witnessed the event not to write it up in their shift log.
I can think of no other country where police approach a routine stop with drawn weapons. So, it really, really isn’t necessary. Gun happy cops would soon think twice if they knew they were going to have to fill in a lengthy form and possibly face an interview, or maybe even retraining, in the case of repeat offenders, simply for un-holstering their gun.
The information gathered would enable oversight authorities to gather valuable meta data on the use of arms.
I’m not American, so I don’t know if this would even be possible under your system of government but if it is, it could be a low key way to start altering police behaviour, from the ground up.
Or how about no criminals then we wouldn’t need police??
@scrapplepig
Great stuff, Captain Obvious.
@Q. E. D. Nobody wants to talk about black taking any blame for what’s going on. Even you, do you feel that blacks should take some blame? ………………That’s what I thought. If you aren’t from this country you don’t have a clue of the real story because the news isn’t telling the whole story. So your uneducated opinions are are useless, and your ideas are laughable.
War On Drugs
today’s US is what happens to a country that declares war on it’s own citizens.
Stop taking so many drugs
@Gregor Heisenhorn
you make one question your knowledge of the world you live in?
Thank you Nancy for your “just say no” solution.
True, but it’s not our country that’s waring against its citizens…, it’s the off spring of the confederates, who should have been deported by, president Lincoln, back to the, Nederlands ( 1625 Dutch company, ) and back to, Germany, after the Civil War… This is why you witness them flying the confederate and swastika flags…
They did threaten to rise again… as they attempted to do at our Capital on, 6 Jan, 2021. English America, is not divided… it’s inffected.
Don’t turn a public health and social issue into a crime.
Lol reimagine what is Barney and friends
🤔 they need to release all body cam footage. To the public when needed not years later
Now that might be a start, huh! There hasn’t been the footage from Daunte’s case he is a youth and might not have had the same presence like the Lieutenant in Virginia had ….regardless …why were they even tasering ? OVERALL in God’s name why is a traffic stop a lethal event to begin with?
We must reimagine your jail cell….
I’m not a an officer and has no education on the difference between the gun and taser. Do they look and feel the same? Like, is it really that easy to mix up? Is this considered murder being that she is an officer? This isn’t like a clerical error at work where you can fix it. If someone doesn’t mind answering, I’ll appreciate it. Rip young angel!
@Janique Geddeskarrer I agree 110%!
@Vandrell Cyriak I agree!
Daunte had an outstanding warrant forarmed robbery and strangling a woman
@Gorgeous Freeman I knew he had a warrant, it was said on the body cam video but it still didn’t mean he had to die. Let a judge and jury deal with it not a bullet.
@Dani Mooti I agree, it was a tragedy to say the least. However he was no innocent man.
If I sit on my couch and imagine and reimagine getting my laundry done, it won’t get done until I take action.
There are big differences in a gun & a taser. The weight, color, placement of a gun & taser on their belt. This officer resigned due to the fact that she wanted to save her pension & benefits. She is a 27 year veteran in the police force. The video shows her saying, I SHOT HIM no distress what so ever – just a statement matter of fact attitude. The video shows the officer to her right had his yellow tip taser on the left of his belt. – not the right. Another issue is that they knew who owned the car, they knew the his residence & could have just went to his house to make an arrest for his outstanding warrant. This did not call for a killing by a cop. Look at Floyd’s murder – same place Minneapolis. I thought LA was bad but Minneapolis is deadly.
pretty sure policing in the USA came right out of slave-driving, they just took their whips and gave them badges
Please someone help these people….please 😪😪😪😪
We the people who get it need to start protesting every time a police officer shop keepers any innocent victims and demand that criminal actions will no longer be tolerated period
Niggah please!
To protect oneself is to be threaten violently by the perpetrator. No excuse for this officer.
