I like Hemmingways work. Too bad critics don’t understand writers. My father always says, ” those who can’t do critics.”
In the UK, we used to say, “Those who can, do. Those who can’t, teach. And those who can’t do either become critics.” 😉👍
Rereading ‘A Farewell to Arms’ – I’ve read more enduring novels.
Ken is a gift to his viewers. He’s given us so much perspective on important people and times in American history. Thank you Ken & Co.!
Hemingway gave my father two sea shells from the garden of his house in Havana in the 1950’s , still have them, Had them on Ebay years ago, no bids. lol
Keep them. They’re kinda’ priceless, but mostly because of the reason your dad valued them. However, if you insist on parting with them, give ‘em to me? 😉
I recognise Peter Coyote’s voice doing the narration, again. That guy seems to get dibs on all of America’s most important documentaries? He has the perfect sound that we’ve come to associate with Ken Burns. Can’t wait. What a treat. ✌️👍

3 part, 6 hour documentary on PBS. It had to be Ken Burns.
So that made me want to read more Hemingway.

In To Have and Have Not, so much imagery and complications of the story using two syllable words, just remarkable.

Ok. Hemingway was a fantastic author i cannot state that enough hes an amazing author.
He was kind of a weird guy tho.
Seriously dude cheated on his wives multiple times, got clawed while playing with a lion, worked with the kgb (reportedly) spent a lot of his time in his retirement tracking nazi U-boats with a boat and a pile of hand grenades.
Hemingway was an amazing writer bit this guy was a very complex individual.
Burns and Company are the best at what they do.
Back in the 80s I visited his estate in Key West. Very interesting. The caretakers did a good job. He enjoyed cats and their 6-toed descendants still live there.
Thanks Ken Burns and Lynn, the other film maker. Hemingway was extremely gifted as a writer. It’s very encouraging that we can get there via PBS. Yup. Enlightened already!
