Broad, Bipartisan Appeal Of Dems' Voting Rights Ideas Alarms Far-Right Billionaires | Rachel Maddow
Each day is getting a little more bright than the last.
@Cecilia Lamson That is a VERY new account nearly entirely politically motivated. You are only here to try to disrupt the truth. You aren’t very bright.
@Akashes Klay Well, 800K migrants from all over the world are heading to cross the border with no COVID tests, no vetting of identity, no plans for what to do with them. The cartels re running fentanyl and meth over the border at record rates. Biden has no plan except give them Radisson hotel rooms and board, dental and medical, for six months. For starters. Then we have our second amendment rights under attack as well. Americans right to free speech is being seriously abridged, with the help of social and mainstream media billionaires. Small business is being squeezed out, poorly performing states are given more stimulus, mass evictions and homelessness are rising, and the Capitol is being guarded against Americans with armed soldiers and razor wire fences. To name a few
@Scarlet begonias – Most of what you listed is right-wing hysteria, easily dismissed. Your view of the United States is so far skewed to the right, you meet yourself coming the other way. Relax.
@Henry McCoy Funny way to describe her (him?). You really made my day. Thanks.
@Scarlet begonias “The capitol is being guarded against Americans with armed soldiers and razor wire fences” Hmmm i wonder why, couldn’t possibly be because Traitor Trump tried to use his band of thugs and terrorists to overthrow the government.
Good, we need to defend everyone’s right to vote.
@President Joe’s Hidin’ still fake news because I’m white and I say so
@President Joe’s Hidin’ so… you are talking about donations to unaffiliated PACs? Do I have to explain how they work? They can’t coordinate with any candidate and they are equal opportunity- there are just as many or more treasonous Republiklan death cult Political Action Committees as there are patriotic PACs that defend the Constitution and human rights
@Mathy Don Look, DNC drone, you lost your credibility long ago. You’re actually pretending that the two main parties are bought and paid for, so just drop the act
@President Joe’s Hidin’ huh? I’m
Saying the Republiklan criminals are bought and paid for by the Koch brothers and Betsy Davos. Betsy Davos made $200,000,000 while she was working for the Republiklan criminal enterprise- you think that’s a coincidence?
@Mathy Don And I’m saying so are the Dems. You can play DNC drone and snort that kool-aid all you want, but it doesn’t change that fact.
And if you want to use anecdotes then I will too: Pelosi has somehow increased her fortune by $100 million since entering Congress. Oh I’m certain it’s all perfectly “legal” how she went about it. But the FACT remains that she’s gotten filthy rich as a politician.
You want to keep playing these games, DNC drone?
If you described things in neutral terms, conservatives would be appalled of what their party has done. But the right wing propaganda networks will make sure they never hear what’s happened in neutral terms, and will never know the truth. Yet another problem that will be caused by America’s lax regulations on telling the truth in media.
@Scarlet begonias Robert Murdoch? Owner of several far right news publications including Fox.
@David Gray ” Yup, there needs to be legal accountability for spreading false information knowingly.”
I agree but how????
@Scarlet begonias Average contribution to the bidden campaign was a touch over $47.00.
@NiNi J Not all republicans are rich, quite a few are just stupid.
@Mark M LoL 😂 yup
This could explain the rush of senior GOP Senators “retiring”. Senator Whitehouse and Speaker Pelosi gave plenty warning S1 was coming. Jane Mayer’s article is outstanding.
@William Mielenz SO true.
@President Joe’s Hidin’ She should, and be replaced by AOC.
@Reg U it’s all those civil service workers left over from the last guy that worries me.
@William Mielenz Yep.
@William Mielenz And their Gopster judges.
What they will do is: lie, lie and double lie about it 🤷♂️😬🙄😑
@Nom de Guerre LMFAO
@David Gray with geniuses like you walking the streets….who needs idiots.
@Nom de Guerre good thanks.
@lynda medley you have a vote?
God help us.
@lynda medley your intentions are good but your analysis is faulty.
You will discover soon that you have been lied to and that the people telling you these lies are evil and do so to profit at your expense.
They are now desperate and will do including starting a race war to remain in power.
Stay safe.
Who knew I wasn’t the only one, that didn’t want to lose my voting right as if it was a privilege to be taken away from me by GOP as a punishment for not voting Trump. Ex republican Biden voter.
@Mark M it is what it is. We want to change the world when we’re young and we have a solution for every problem, then we learn to acclimate to no change. Later we resist letting it change us. We can’t plug into next generation to pass on what passes away with us when we die. So why fight this human pattern instead of accepting it. Whatever I do now, I do because that’s who I am, not to force my intent on anyone. Mark Twain said it’s easier to fool people than it is to convince them they’re being fooled. I’m even fooled by that.
I am so pleasantly surprised by this administration. Trump tried to undo Obama for 4 years. Trump is forgotten in 4 months. Biden’s Infer structure plan is ambitious
@Daniel Arcadia ya except now its much less thanks to the new georgia bill,and also no matter how many early voting days you will still have many people who prefer in person voting in a city(plus they are gonna limit who can do early voting, and if you vote early republican is gonna say you steal the election again cos all those vote “suddenly ” appears)
@James Faulkner II I’m sorry that you have a problem with having a identification card ..most people who work and pay taxes have one. You can get a free Identification card through salvation army in every state. Just saying
@Houston Conservative Please check the difference between your rights and your privileges. Driving is a privilege so they can force you to buy automobile insurance or you cant drive. There are conditions you can place on a privilege. your right to vote becomes a privilege to vote and can be taken away once enough conditions is placed on it to be redefined as voting privilege. you argue against your own self interest. Just saying
VOTER SUPPRESSION is what they want!! 🤦🕵💙
@I.M. Greg exactly right, but you do realize the democrats are the ones exploiting racial division. Go tell anyone who’s black that they don’t know how to or have the ability to get an ID, see how that works out for you
@joemann The southern rascist democrats never changed or went away. They switched parties to the GOP during the Nixon administration, reacting against LBJs civil rights efforts. Goldwater’s libertarianism is wrapped into the transition and lots of anti-communism too. It sets the stage for Reagan and the new partnership between GOP and the military industrial complex. Not to mention trickle down economics.
@I.M. Greg There is truth in what you say. Any division among at least 80% of us is in our own minds. True freedom carries no baggage.
@MTN17 you’re 100% right about that but if the GOP was to make a 180, the racists would have no choice but to create a 3rd party. Aka, the Trump Party, or something along those lines.
It wouldn’t be easy for them to recover and maybe they never will but I think it’s still a possibility, even if slim.
Authoritarian government is what they REALLY want.
Republican racism is like COVID:
just because they don’t admit it, doesn’t mean it’s not there.
What about Democratic racism. Everything is racist even inanimate objects, books. Racism to left is labeling the other side racist and then calling all of American history as racist removing all statues, books and mentioning of our founding stating the country was founded on racism. Dividing the country by race and then have a group like BLM who has nothing to d with black lives goes around destroying black neighborhoods in the name of blacks.
@Lawrence Harris you know our first black president was an illegal alien, right? Trump sent investigators to Hawaii. You won’t believe what they found
@Lawrence Harris The Lord Jesus Christ shall soon return, put a stop to this insanity, and bring peace. “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28, KJV).
@avegoodtime Yea and your first black first lady was a man right?
@Lawrence Harris blah blah own the libs! Blah blah Hunter blah blah
When you have so much more than you need already, why steal from those who don’t? Theirs is a true sickness, a truly dark soul.
Greed has no soul or shame
Because they 100% believe they are a superior race and “the general public” are nothing more than surfs in their fiefdoms. Eat the rich.
They are afraid.
@Calvin Bright empty calories but tasty
Who are you to tell people what they can and can’t have?I have the right to spend my money that I earn on whatever I want to!!I don’t steal anything from anyone!I work for what I have!quit trying to blame others for being successful. Check your bullshix and go get it for yourself
“Dark money billionaire groups”… here you go… the roote cause of the calamity in the world on so many levels. I hope that The New Yorker will reveal more of these plots.
@Lance ThumelEasy way to spot a racists is when they put BLM and ANTIFA together as if they are the same thing. Maybe we should say Republicans support NRA KKK.
@Scarlet begonias these guys are blind to greed they not see left or right they see green
One of the Democrat Senators, about a year and a half ago…Did a talk, display, that showed the dark money in politics….It was on C-Span, I can’t remember what senator, or why he was giving it…Any how it was very interesting…I will look for video on U-Tube, and link it…
@coolmodelguy If that was going to happen, it would have back when USA was made..Between JP Morgan, Carnegie, Rockefeller, Ford, Vanderbilt, and others Terrific USA History Documentary…America The Story of US..and The Men That Built America….Watch them if you haven’t
@may wilson – It did happen, or rather the attempt was made. USMC Major General Smedley Darlington Butler (July 30, 1881 – June 21, 1940) was approached by representatives attempting to recruit him to lead a 400,000 man group of disaffected WW1 veterans in a 1934 coup d’état against Franklin D. Roosevelt, President of the United States, on behalf of the wealthy businessmen of the time.
YES! KOCH BROTHERS WERE CAUGHT PLAYING THIS WHEN ROMNEY WAS RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT!
Only one Koch left
@Michael Andersen Yeah. The bad one…
After all, if our vote does not count. Why are they trying their best to supress it?
@coolmodelguy I think it is * also * a matter of skin color, but not * just * that, it’s also misogyny, homophobia, and religious extremism, etc. Systematically oppressing all the “others” is a major contributing factor to the money and power staying at the top. Otherwise, I see your point.
Comes to find out that voting does have an impact and that is what they don’t like .
Good point!!!!
@Louisa Now – You are correct, I should have written “It is not *just* a matter of voter’s skin color”. In my studies of our economy, I have found that almost every prejudice you mentioned in your comment is a “divide and conquer” tactic used in an overall strategy to divert attention from the problems caused by wealth accumulation. Too much attention directed toward solving those problems is a direct threat to the wealthy and they will do anything to protect their status.
@coolmodelguy I assumed it was a simple typo, just put that out there for others who might have thought you meant something else. The distraction value of those still crucial prejudice issues is quite high, but the issues are very closely tied to power and control and still need our attention too. We will have to strike a balance somehow.
This is absurd. This wouldn’t even happen in scripted television. The political sphere here is stranger than fiction.
Hi Rachel, I am an Australian fan. It amazes me that US politicians are allowed partisan interference with the electoral process. In Australia, elections are run by fully independent electoral commissions, Federally and in the States. As well virtually everyone votes here so US-style voter suppression is not possible. Our main electoral problem here is the Murdoch media running dishonest campaigns in support of right-wing parties.
Spot on. Compulsory voting in Federal elections does away completely with voter suppression. Murdoch press and TV still turn the truth in Australia and around the world into a pretzel. Murdoch must pay for broadcasting fiction and lies as the truth.
We have the same problem with Murdoch media!
I’d like to see another level of election reform which called for honesty in political advertisements.
Same in Canada. Elections run by non partison “Elections Canada”.
“for both the general public AND conservatives”….Even in how they speak amongst themselves shows how aware the GOP is that it’s party doesn’t represent the “general public”..only a minority bloc of “conservatives”
Take a look at Ted Cruz he’s a perfect example of the GOP and the American people your Kevin McCarthy
Radicalized chunk.
Cogent remark. It made me frown too when I heard it. Very revealing indeed.
Refreshing. Staying educated and informed is what citizens are supposed to do.
We’ve been working overtime fact checking everything.
Money for education and useful curricula would be good, and a basic income that allows everyone enough leisure to read and think is essential. Keeping their constituents poor and badly educated is key to red state politicians winning re-election
Of course the Oligarchs feel threatened not all but alot of them they’re enjoying the recreation of the gilded age.
Get rid of all these billionaires running the country into the ground. Get them to pay their fair share of taxes!
billionaires …ROFL …what has that to do with new law ??? Here is what that section of the law says: “(a) No person shall solicit votes in any manner or by any means or method, nor shall any person distribute or display any campaign material, nor shall any person give, offer to give, or participate in the giving of any money or gifts, including, but not limited to, food and drink, to an elector, nor shall any person solicit signatures for any petition, nor shall any person, other than election officials discharging their duties, establish or set up any tables or booths on any day in which ballots are being cast (1) Within 150 feet of the outer edge of any building within which a polling place is
and keep their money out of politics and policy development. We need to see and respond to the funding of outfits like ALEC
@Maria G. yeah citizen united … wtf ..but any way : – )
BILLIONAIRES BUYING ELECTIONS says it all.
It is not about anything other than greed and fear of the peasants achieving equality with the Oligarchs and their evil minions.
