Severe turbulence rocked a flight from Phoenix to Honolulu Sunday, injuring 36 people in what an Hawaiian Airlines official called an unusual event.

Patients suffered cuts, including to the head, as well as bumps and bruises. Some people were nauseous and vomited as a result of extreme motion. “We are also very happy and we feel fortunate that there were not any deaths or other critical injuries. And we’re also very hopeful that all will recover and make a full recovery,” Ireland said. Jon Snook, the airline's chief operating officer, said three flight attendants were among those taken to hospitals.
Passenger Kaylee Reyes told Hawaii News Now that her mother had just sat down when the turbulence hit and did not have a chance to buckle her safety belt. “She flew up and hit the ceiling,” Reyes said.
Snook said there was some internal damage to the aircraft during the turbulence. The seatbelt sign was on at the time, though some of those injured weren't wearing them, he said.

still, you will have at least 3 or 4 people going to the toilets and few crew members standing. But yeah, would be better.
@Vanessa Ruizesp because it was during the later half of the flight. People had already received their drinks/ snacks and probably had to use the restroom because of it. Flight attendants were probably going to pick up trash and let people know they needed to stow away large laptops for landing. 30 mins before landing can be a pretty busy time.

Classic PANIC situation. You’re riding the safest mode of transportation, the world over. Enjoy bring more at risk driving your car.
But that being said…. the air traffic controller should have notified that aircraft of the turbulence. IF the ATC didn’t notify that aircraft, be glad your situation, probably did save someone else’s life, while in the meantime your pilot’s saved yours.
You know both times I’ve had to make a connecting flight in Houston and DC, there’s always turbulence. 😤

People don’t realize how violent turbulence can be. It can kill you if you aren’t restrained properly. People have broken their necks hitting the ceiling before.
to those people who were thrown out of their sears: why haven’t you been buckled up in 33.000 feet altitude and knowing that turbulance or rough air might occur at any moment? It’s not for nothing that flightattendents have begun to request their passenger to fasten their seatbealts for years! It’s nthe fault of Hawaiian but of those ignorant passengers!
