Why Trump’s Corruption Matters with Zephyr Teachout | Why Is This Happening? – Ep 17 | MSNBC

Is President Trump a symptom of a system of corruption, or is he the cause? The nation’s highest office is embroiled in scandal, some so brazen and shameless that it’s almost easy to grow numb to the onslaught of headlines. But corruption is a uniquely poisonous threat to the country, a danger the founding fathers became obsessed with trying to prevent. So how did we reach this particularly low point, and what can be done to clean it up? Zephyr Teachout is in a unique position to talk about this, as she is the author of the book “Corruption in America” and she also happens to be running New York Attorney General, a race the President should be paying close attention to.

    1. Well, I guess that’s what the Germans in Hitler’s time finally decided was the best alternative – ‘ He does this all the time, get over it.” SORRY – THAT IS A HIDEOUS SENTIMENT PUT FORTH BY AN EVEN MORE HIDEOUS REPUBLICAN PARTY

  1. Tump abandons the Kurds and is ready to assist the Saudis. Why? Money. Kurds don’t have the bucks; but the Saudis fill the Trump coffers. What else is there to say?

    1. @DynaCatlovesme that’s a great hit piece. unfortunately…
“The country has decided that the Qatar Investment Authority (QIA) will aim to avoid putting money in funds or other investment vehicles it does not have full control over, according to the sources, who are familiar with the QIA’s strategy.”

“according to the sources..” what sources? i could write my own article about Bernie kicking puppies and put “according to the sources” lol it means nothing…thanks for posting a link tho

    2. @DynaCatlovesme “There is no upside in investing through funds for someone like QIA. Qatar wants full visibility into where its money goes,” said the second source familiar with the QIA’s strategy.”

      “….said the second source”
      i mean cmon…media is lying

    3. @bingo_fuel Only a moron could miss what happened. 1) Qatar refuses a loan to Kushner 2) Trump & Kusner visit Saudia Arabia 3) Saudi Arabia and it’s allies cut off relations with Qatar, saying they back “terrorists” 4) Trump endorses all this publicly 5) Kushner gets his money from Qatar 6) Gradually, the diplomatic and financial pressure on Qatar from the other Gulf States ceases for no apparent reason

All of this occurring over a mere two months.

    1. Every generation has their trials, in that we are
      no different than our predecessors
      (who suffered worse).

      Fear is natural – yet,
if we don’t face danger or sadness, it will spread.
Likewise – embrace your name when you can/
especially in debate; (even if it’s scary).
One’s belief in self is of the worst things you could lose,
      and the Russians know it..

      Farewell.

  2. Decadence is 1st sign of decline…….1 man can ruin a nation…… the nation allows itself to be ruined…….. billionaire class making more than whole nations must have real dangers…….

  3. You got Rudy dealing with a house arrested oligarch in Ukraine, who’s been fighting the U.S. case against him and requests for him to face charges in the U.S. by paying off politicians here to look the other way. You got Rudy going to coordinate with Manafort in jail to try to use the same Russian to build a case that his arrest and charges were all illegal. Like we’re supposed to forget Manafort was being paid under the table by the Russian backed Ukrainian dictator to shine up his image while he imprisoned his opponent. Manafort forsaked democracy a long time ago. Laws? Regulations? They’re just in the way. You got Rudy’s pals, Lev and Igor, and two more guys, bribing American politicians with mysterious sources of money. You got Lev being busted in the states for weapons possesion and threatening a man, you got Don pulling out career diplomats and installing a rich hotel owner along with Rudy to run diplomacy over there… Forget the Rudy Biden hustle, this is a total criminal takeover.

  4. The court system in NY and the country is inherently unfair to the citizens. Trump has and is manipulating the system to game his corruption and he gets to nominate judges to the highest court in the land? The system is corrupt, lawyers are killing democracy. Look what happening, it’s obvious.

  5. TRUMPZILLA , HAS ONLY BEEN IN POLITICS FOR 3 FRICK’N YEARS ! THE CORRUPTION HAPPENS WHEN YOU HAVE POLITICIANS IN OFFICE FOR 30 AND 40 YEARS ! C’MON ! 😠

  6. Two examples of corruption: 1.I was evicted from PublIc Housing in San Diego last year after I asked ‘why are there 100 Chinese residents here, but NO Blacks? I contacted everyone I could think of including police, councilman, state senator, HUD central office, FBI (they have a problem hiring Black people), ….and DIANNE FEINSTEIN. She wrote back to say she could see no problem. I was made HOMELESS at age 72. EVERYONE IS A RACIST
    2. Because of the above I decided to apply to Law School-and put everyone in jail. I found BOTH of the entrance exams absurd. For the GREI could buy a book of REAL ESSAY ANSWERS on Amazon. The LSAT requires me to write an essay on MY computer watched by software downloaded from them. I asked ‘is this SPYWARE?’ They replied offering to let me ONLY write the essay on one of THEIR computers at a school. Being stupidly honest , I refused.

Finally , I have written to MANY Law Schools and Graduate Schools, ACLU, FBI again-(they did nothing of course, because they are lawyers?
    But NO ONE replies.
    YES, CORRUPTION IS EVERYWHERE.

  7. I loved this interview. Teachout is an articulate intelligent woman. Her gender based comment reminded me of a time in 1967 when a male manager denied that I would ever be allowed a position in management no matter how much education I got. I’m only one of the millions of women to prove him wrong. Women have always been in a unique position to recognize and to cut out internal rot on a daily basis.
