I’m hopeful that all US Senators will put country before party. I’m relatively sure that both the Democratic and Independent members will do so. I’m not nearly as optimistic about the Republican members acting in good faith or based on the evidence and voting in accordance with the facts uncovered or presented. I pray that I’m wrong about the GOP senators, but won’t be surprised if I’m not in regards to the Republican Senators.

I have my doubts based on their behavior to date. They should do what you say based on their oath alone. If not, then we have no democracy and that will change US forever!
The impeachment hearings and the investigation are in protection of our democracy. Like it or not, regardless of your party-affiliation; Congress has the responsibility to maintain checks and balances. They must protect and defend the Constitution of the United States; and to prove to any president that abuse of power and bribery are crimes demanding impeachment. Just because you’re a fanatic for your party, the idiocy of overlooking the importance of preserving our democracy makes your argument against it moot!

Dem Speaker of the House (Tip O’Neil) said as much on Larry King live years after his retirement. as far as an attempt on President Trumps life, i doubt there has been a serious effort yet. I think they thought they could get him otherwise and that the risk is great. I do not doubt they have a plan in place but they will make every other effort first.

It is almost literally true that Trump “asked” to be impeached– that he got HIMSELF impeached. If he had simply refrained from his worst outrages, he would have been safe, probably certain of a second term. But No. He had to commit grossly obvious crimes that Nancy could not overlook.
