I’m officially truly embarrest to be an American this month. I feel so ungrateful and ashamed that I can even say that, but I’m sorry. This is the only time in my life I’ve ever felt that way. I understand that. No one likes to see American soldiers die. The concern is that this will cause an ISIS resurgence, a situation that, long term, will cause many, many American soldiers to die. There is a difference between holding a position with a few thousand soldiers so that an enemy is under control and fighting a long term war defined by asymmetrical warfare tactics that the US military, historically, has a difficult time countering. So many more US soldiers are going to die now, as ISIS regroups and undermines what little stability that exists in the middle east and that instability undermines US interests. I understand people when they are frustrated that we seem to be The World Police, but it is a global economy and we are the greatest military force on the planet. This pull out was ill timed, ill thought out and stupid AND US soldiers did die because of it.
