To Defeat Trump, Biden Recruits Sanders Supporters — And Finds Some Are Game | MSNBC

The Democrats’ race to find a nominee who can beat Trump has narrowed to a two-person race, and as Joe Biden racks up more victories, his campaign has begun directly appealing to Sanders supporters. There are signs some may be ready to join. One voter tells MSNBC he backed Sanders in 2016 but will now be “voting for Biden” in the primary in New York, one of the states with the most delegates. Other voters share their interest in Biden, concerns with “democratic socialism,” the cost of Sanders’ policies, and the age of the candidates in this candid conversation with MSNBC’s Ari Melber at the Bel Aire Dinner in Queens, NY. (This interview is from MSNBC’s “The Beat with Ari Melber, a news show covering politics, law and culture airing nightly at 6pm ET on MSNBC. ). Aired on 3/11/2020.

    1. @gerald decaire depth thought!!!!??? Because I never believe in Bernie Sanders and his moronic Bernie bros

    2. @Stonehedge Sanders……..smart……nah…… if he were Michael foot, I will support him. Bernie Sanders is no Michael foot. Go ask Jeremy corbyn

    1. Just like at the voting sites in the Democratic primary for 2020. A reflection of reality. Maybe they should have been selling 20000000 Apple phones. You guys would have most definitely shown up. 🤣🤣🤣…And you guys should have the upper hand in choosing the Democratic nominee…🤣🤣🤣

    1. 10,000 of you for 1 Charlie Whiskey it’s almost like no one knows that Obama/Biden set up the cages in the detention facilities. And deported like 3000000. Maybe they don’t remember the crime bill either. Or the Iraq vote. Nafta, and glass steagall. Bombing 7 countries, drone strikes, overturned elections of other countries

    2. @10,000 of you for 1 Charlie Whiskey
how do you feel about the Arab, right now?
after 9 11 most of ‘murikans detested anything Islam, many still do,
some pushed sikhs in front of trains, (not understanding they werent the same)
at that time (41) pearl was your 9/11
you dont think donnie dementia would do the same to all Islamist’s, as what you did to Japanese?
what did you do to the blacks?
what did you do to the natives?
what did you do to the Chinese?
      the Italians, the Irish?
it’s always the same, it’s what you do
to point at just the one prez when many of your country was of a like mind, is lying to yourself

  1. Translation “ we establishment democrats reject your socialist ideas , but we want your votes 😎 !” 🤣🤣

    1. @Jordan Brown If you really wanted healthcare you’d want Bernie. You know all other countries with these things are laughing at people like you who think these common sense ideas are so’radical’.Pathetic!!!

    2. Anne Bergeron I get you support Bernie but it looks like Biden May be the nominee. So which one do you think will protect and expand on healthcare for the most Americans—Trump or Biden?

  2. so sad that somehow they like sanders’ ideas, but insist on settling for a “safe bet”. the pro-Biden ones never even mentioned policy, they’re just voting against someone and not for someone.

    1. @1pr007 I was addressing his locking in his vote in general. After which you are powerless. The racist factor should have just helped but that would be too much like logical.

    2. @The Progressive Christian Well you’ve got a black ex president and monumental black turnout that differs to your assessment, just saying…

Has Biden done anything different to what Obama did to lock in the vote??

    3. @1pr007 We’ve got an African American community who were flamboozled into believing Joe Biden isn’t a racist. He’s cognitively challenged. He’s voted against the working middle class his whole career. He’s the “King of Credit Cards” because he pushed and passed a terrible bankruptcy bill. He brags about being willing but unable to be bribed. For crying out loud, the guy lied about being arrested with Nelson Mandela. For three weeks until someone called him on it. That’s a whole new level of lying. Perhaps a reflection of a personality disorder. He couldn’t remember the Preamble. Historically they’re going to scratch their heads when they see that Black Americans voted for one of the biggest racists currently in government. Trump isn’t as racist. This IS NOT MY ASSESSMENT. It is the consensus.

  3. “Here we have a liberal democrat who says it’s to left for her”.

No you have a conservative democrat.

    1. @Allan Peda By the standards of American CONservatards, EVERYBODY who isn’t a White Supremacist is a Communist-Socialist !!!

    2. @Nota Bene Simply bring up Europeans’ racisl Whiteness as the ultimate debate-winner against Amerikkkans! 😊💣

    3. Here you have people who cannot THINK for themselves: DEFEATING TRUMP is a point in time: AFTER THAT cange would come DURING the presidency. – Unless she thinks the guy cannot win – the one with the GOOD IDEAS.

    4. Here you have a friendly old lady who thinks her SS and Medicare are safe. Nice – but she is still in the “I got mine” category. If things are ONLY terrible for other people, of course you can well live with slow change or no change at all. She is blissfully unaware that Trump said that he will cut SS, Biden has decades of wanting to do that because he serves big finance, and that is a pet project of them. Privaticing and / or cutting SS. Biden will be run by his handlers anyway

  4. “Bernie wants to do too much too fast!”

    Wow

    Just wow.

It’s funny that he asked substantive follow up questions to the Sanders supporter but not the Biden supporters.

I’m so sick of this “Obama VP” narrative. This is just disgusting.

    1. That comment shocked me as well. These old people really have no clue, they will be dead in a few years so they don’t care about the future, the future of their sons and grandsons.

    2. AmpedUpTech No Obama picked Biden because he was originally from Pennsylvania, a battleground state, and could pull working class votes. He could have picked any White person for VP for the same reason. In actuality it was more strategic than that.

    3. vshah1010 Biden pushed for segregation in the early 70’s. That’s almost 50 years ago, and thankfully, he changed and became a better person. Bernie skipped an event in Selma commemorating the Civil rights movement 2 weeks ago when every other candidate made it. If you don’t believe people can change for the better in 50 years, then keep living.

    1. Maybe she’s only watching the 5-7min prepared speeches Biden gives before getting pulled away for a nap so he does not get a chance to start tripping all over himself from mental exhaustion.

    1. @Joe Perez actually he is on record, at least 3 times, wanting to cut SSI Medicare, and Medicaid. All to pay for tax cuts for a few.

    2. You dont get it. They all agree that Sanders ideas are great; however, they are aware that His ideas are too unrealistic and voting for him would alienate people and risk Trump winning again, something that Berniebros obviously prefer than conceding the nomination to Biden. Its sad.

    3. “Think of how stupid the average American is, and realize half of them are stupider than that.”
      ― George Carlin

  5. I hope Biden has more than dignity to his agenda!!! The country needs a progressive move forward with dignity!!! Trump needs alot of investigation on all his illegal activities!!! All his co conspirators also!!! When he is convicted the country will heal!! Dignity at its finest!!🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

    1. @Zyworski I did. Vociferously. He wouldn’t have been able to in the first instance if purity politics didn’t flow through the left like a plague.

    2. @Scarlet and Grey I want to thank you. I bet a friend that when I click on your profile it would come up as hollow as a Russian troll, and you did not disappoint me. Thank you very much, I just made a quick $5 bucks.

    3. @Zyworski You tell yourself whatever makes you feel better. Calling everyone who disagrees a bot or troll may impress the like -minded, but it just makes you small, petty and trump-like.

  6. Wow I can’t believe everyone thinks Bernie is so far left. He’s just trying to catch up with the rest of the first world countries. It’s not radical. I guess you don’t understand what it could be unless you have experienced it. And because you do not have nationalized health care, this pandemic is going to get worse for everyone because you do not have a system in place to coordinate all your many private health care organizations.:(

    1. Bernie is just trying to continue the efforts that were lastly pursued by Kennedy and Johnson.
Americans are a nation of feeble-minded infants. Maybe the lead and arsenic in their cheap coffee and chicken. I mean, how can be a person over 40 y.o., probably a parent, so idiotic and disconnected from reality and the not-so-long history of their rather-young country?

    2. It’s sad, isn’t it? I gave a lot to Bernie’s campaign-a real champion of the people and yet the people rejected him. It’s like America has only contempt for good hearts and prefers to be taken to the prom by the bad boy while the good boy is left out in the rain.

  7. The first lady said that, “he is trying to do too much too fast”, Boomer its because the needle didnt move a bit in the last 40 years. What he is trying to do, should have been done a long time ago.

Its really sad to see that the younger generation is much smarter than the boomer generation who ruined the future of younger generation by voting for one after another status quo corrupt candidate.

    1. AmpedUpTech Bernie’s supporters didn’t bother to out in big numbers to support him, it’s all very well to attend rallies, post furiously online, disparagingly call people ‘boomers’ but it’s voting that counts, you can’t say on one hand that you disagree with older voters but then not turn up & vote for Sanders. That’s yet another reason why people are not voting for Bernie, not only because they believe he can’t defeat Trump but also because his supporters are not reliable!

    2. the needle didnt move a bit in the last 40 years?
      More like 60 years!
JFK was already preaching that the US must catch up on Europe and have universal health care 30 years (in his days) after all Europe already had it!

    1. This is a trap. Trump has boot lickers and a$$et kissers.. Is this who you want to be..? Remember how many Russian bots sitting in their Russian cubicles.. got rational hundreds ofAmericans to rally?..

    2. ehla 01 Sure whatever you say gullible naive centrist you stand for nothing. And yes your ( Democratic)nominee will still loose to trump so you better vote blue no matter who 😂✌️🔥

    1. Madeline – BIDEN 2020!! Purposeful, Intelligent, Knowledgeable, Compassionate, Real, Authentic, Realistic & has a good head on his shoulders!

    2. @Texas-7111 Freedom and Liberty! You’re about a year behind everyone else. Catch up or shut up!

  8. We can trust Biden to “choose people who are progressive”?????????????
The guy promised to veto Medicare for All! The whole reason why he was propped up was so that we could AVOID progressive policies being enacted. I just can’t anymore…

    1. @Paul Kern
      True. People voted for Biden.
Bernie’s supporters shouldn’t complain. “Establishment…”. We all live in a dime kind of establishment. It’s just like Trump saying “deep state”.. nonsense!

  9. I have the impression that this is so staged!! Everyone looks so “dressed up” and ready…….., 1 empty chair exactly for him to seat!
    LOL!!

    1. I’m one of the old people and I still have enough common sense left to support a great and kind man like Bernie. Don’t count all of us boomers out.

    2. But that’s what they do act whomever doesn’t believe what they believe. That’s exactly how we got trump.

  10. the stage is set in a diner in Queens: “We are talking to voters and _local leaders”_ – ah, the party _machine_ – typically people do not wear suits when they go for a coffee, this is not Manhattan.
