Sailors cheer Navy captain removed for coronavirus warning

The commander of a US aircraft carrier hit by a major outbreak of coronavirus was ousted after writing a memo warning that decisive action was needed to save the lives of the ship's crew. #CNN #News

    1. We all know that notifying your immediate supervisor in the military of action about action that needs to be taken, means no action gets taken.
      Big companies and governments are just big behemoths that are full of red tape, group think, and bureaucracy.
      Sometimes you have to go outside the chain of command to get results. They would have stonewalled had he taken the traditional route.
      The ironic thing is after all of this, the government did nearly exactly what Capt. Crotier requested, it removed soldiers from the ship, and quarantined them.
      As he stated, “We are not at war”. The government wanted the USS Theodore Roosevelt to be at the ready. Ready for what???

      At the same Thursday briefing, the chief of naval operations, Adm. Michael Gilday, said the Navy expects commanders to handle matters “calmly and unemotionally.”

      We all know if Gilday had any immediate family in danger or at risk, he would certainly not act Vulcan or be unemotional about it.

      Do not worry about Captain Crotier. The military will let him retire with his full credentials. He will find work in the private sector or academia, and maybe write a book.

  2. Did EXACTLY what a leader is supposed to do protect his troops. The non leaders in the administration could not let that stand. to easy to see how ineffective and self dealing they are when you compare to Captain Crozier. The nation owes Captain Crozier a huge debt of gratitude. In a time when so many hide from their responsibilities and duties he steps up and does the right thing. Did you see his troops when he left the ship? Did it sound like they were disappointed in his performance? Nope they were grateful and so are the vast majority of thinking civilians. Beats the tar out of the piece of crap who is supposed to be leading this country!

    3. @mike swiental His boss did not say that. The article said his email was leaked to the media, never mentioned who did it. I work in the cyber security arena and fully understand both sides of the argument so please save the fodder and need to educate someone via YouTube for another day. The guy sent an email to his command and it was leaked to the media. Some news outlets are painting the picture he leaked it because it creates a certain level of protectionism for the current administration. By having him fired it sends a message to everyone else that most Presidents are too thin skinned to deal with folks speaking out when in bucks their messaging in a time of crisis. And we all know this President is thin skinned as they get.

Not a paraphrased conspiracy theory, factually what he did in violation of UCMJ. And on that note, how do you know what the facts are? Because you heard it from your favorite news outlet? Or you have a cousin with a best friend who went to high school with someone who is on that boat and they read the Facebook posting so it has to be true? Your in security, what type exactly?     1. @Bill resorting to personal attacks just lowers yourself to those attacks and maybe I’m misunderstanding something but how is that not in compliance with social distancing? By my understanding people who work on aircraft carriers or ships in general, work in tight areas and close proximity the opposite of social distancing. What this captain wanted was to quarantine people on the ship somewhere nearby while having the minimum required workforce to keep the ship running thus social distancing. We can even see the exact problem he wanted to prevent happen, happening a massive outbreak of the virus appeared on the ship as an exact consequence of the Captains plan not being allowed to go through correct?

    1. I am an Australian. I know zilch about the politics of the USA. Captain Crozier is the type of leader the US deserves. He tried to put the welfare of those he has been entrusted to lead first and foremost and was punished for it. The Navy says the ship cannot be evacuated because the “sailors are needed to perform essential tasks”. Well at present they are busy fighting to avoid spreading Covid-19 to their ship mates. Please for the sake of people like me all over the world who are terrified by the questionable stability of your “Commander” someone needs to enact Amendment XXV of your Constitution. This is a black stain on the history of your great country.
