Puerto Rico governor says he won’t seek reelection

Puerto Rico Gov. Ricardo Rosselló announced that he will not run for reelection next year and is resigning as the president of the New Progressive Party, following protests over the past week.

"A huge portion of the population is unhappy and I recognize it," Rosselló said on Facebook Live. "I've heard you, I love the island and people. … Today I have the responsibility to direct my strengths to try to find alternatives so that with God we may be able to move forward."

Rosselló is two and a half years into his four-year term.

Hundreds of protesters near La Fortaleza, the governor's mansion, listened to the announcement on their phones, holding their devices up to their ears as they struggled to hear.

Rosselló did not say he would resign as governor of the US territory, upsetting protesters who have been calling for his resignation after offensive private chat messages between Rosselló and his inner circle were made public.

  1. He stole from the Puerto Rican people and he needs to get out now! It’s not good enough. 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬

    1. For over a year the media blamed trump but look how the lies of the media have been exposed when anybody with a brain knew what was really going on.95% of mainstream media are liars and puppets and i am getting sick of the propaganda spewed everyday.

    2. @Joey BoX0RoX So you are okay that he was slandered and the media lied like they do everyday and gaslight america.you surely are brainwashed.

    3. @ozz lies he gave them all they needed they were the ones misusing the funds and making it political.people have already been arrested and more are likely to come.

  2. Oh real big concession like he was going to win a re election. Another Rahm Emanuel political move right there.

    1. Arie Fraiser if the elections are corrupt he wouldve won. I hope he fears for his life. He deserves to feel the same anxieties other puerto ricans feel

    2. Deimos Malefic And do you Remember when President Trump claimed in April that “corrupt or incompetent” Puerto Rico officials had badly bungled relief efforts following 2017’s Hurricane Maria?

Remember how poorly politicos and journalists reacted to the president’s allegation, claiming that he was lying or being plain racist?

Well, it looks like the president was right. Puerto Rican officials were arrested this week on charges that they stole aid money, the Washington Examiner’s Tim Pearce reported:
Weirdly enough, Trump sort of called this in April when he went on a mini-Twitter rant accusing Democratic lawmakers of playing games with a funding bill.

Puerto Rico “politicians are incompetent or corrupt,” he tweeted, adding, “their government can’t do anything right, the place is a mess – nothing works. FEMA & the Military worked emergency miracles, but politicians like the crazed and incompetent Mayor of San Juan have done such a poor job of bringing the Island back to health.”
      Trump is always right.

    3. Arie…this is a typical GOP move… Roselló is a Republikkkon… I know.. I am Puerto Rican. And I knew at young age that the Republikkons were corrupt and still are…. Now more than ever… The corruption is deep within the GOP inbreds.

  3. It’s so sad how his own ambition and selfishness continues to harm the people of the island. #rickyrenuncia #rickyresignnow

What really gets me and my Puerto Rican husband is, THE SAN JUAN MAYOR teamed up with union thugs during the hurricane crisis and held back food and water supplies , made people STARVE and DIE to make Trump look bad after he gave Puerto more money then Texas and Florida combined. CRICKETS…..Say something homophobic and they go nuts. With priorities like that, Puerto Rico is screwed! Already 76 billion in debt CRICKETS. This is because the liberal media has them brainwashed and trained with horrible priorities

    1. Jester Avrgjoe On April 27, 1961, President 🇺🇸 John F. Kennedy spoke in New York during a lecture about a secret government behind the scenes of world politics.
“We are being thwarted 📣 around the world by a giant ruthless conspiracy,” he said. This conspiracy extends its sphere of influence through infiltration, undermining and intimidation, says Kennedy: “I will destroy the CIA in a million pieces!” Two weeks later he was murdered ‼️ By the same CIA.
Reagan later survived the CIA attack in the hospital ‼️ Trump is still alive, as the most brave and effective of the other (best ever!) 🇺🇸 Presidents! Now no longer safe for Trump are even the Fed and Central Banks, the Rothchilds, CIA/FBI (many already fired or indicted!), the anti-scientific Climate Hoax, the EU dictators, the corrupt UN, Unesco, NWO, Fake News (WashCompost, NYT, CNN, MSNBC, etc), the Big Tech, the Arms Industries (now peace everywhere!), Big Pharma (compulsory super-cheap drugs), brainwashed education, drug and human trafficking (pundit pedos! Even in Saoudi-A, Israël, Vatican and UK Royal Family!).

    1. There is always a way he could have got it. Corruption if you know what I mean 🧐💰💰💰

    2. Reelection in IRI 💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙

  4. IT WASN’T LIKE HE WAS GONNA WIN THE NEXT ELECTION ANYWAY SO HE MIGHT AS WELL LEAVE NOW & GO SOMEWHERE & HIDE BUT NOT IN PUERTO RICO!!💯💯✌😂😂😂

    1. Deimos Malefic Here’s the April 1st tweet cuck. Go ahead and cry …
      Donald J. Trump

      @realDonaldTrump
The Democrats today killed a Bill that would have provided great relief to Farmers and yet more money to Puerto Rico despite the fact that Puerto Rico has already been scheduled to receive more hurricane relief funding than any “place” in history. The people of Puerto Rico…..

….are GREAT, but the politicians are incompetent or corrupt. Puerto Rico got far more money than Texas & Florida combined, yet their government can’t do anything right, the place is a mess – nothing works. FEMA & the Military worked emergency miracles, but politicians like…..

….the crazed and incompetent Mayor of San Juan have done such a poor job of bringing the Island back to health. 91 Billion Dollars to Puerto Rico, and now the Dems want to give them more, taking dollars away from our Farmers and so many others. Disgraceful!

    1. @Rob Stone Very True.. Trump had his number, and billions in relief not accounted for is Deathly Shady..

  5. He’s only coming to that decision cause he realizes he won’t get re-elected. There’s nothing principled about this

    1. Jonathan Isaac: It’s a strategy. He doesn’t mean it. Roselló still thinks he can fool his people and his party’s polititians. He’s a great distractor just like his counterpart in the White House.

    2. @VILMA CABAN BABILONIA the Puerto Rico Governor and his party is the Popular Democratic Party and the opposition is the the New Progressive Party. BOTH are lefties parties.

  6. The Governor wants to receive his $15K per month in pension benefit; that is why he wants to finish his term. He better lay low.

    1. Meanwhile others have lost their pensions because of the corruption!
My friend got an early retirement from the corrupt PRPD, he saw it coming & moved to Florida, my brother a corrupt politician like his pendejo of a boss, still supports the governor & is part of his cabal.
My brother works in San Juan & lives in opulence in Carolina while his constituency lives in squalor, I disown him for his knowingly taking part in the horrible corrupt conditions in “LA ISLA DEL ENCANTO “!

    2. @Angelo SuaveBola yeah but president Trump says…

“The Governor of Puerto Rico, Ricardo Rossello, is a great guy and leader who is really working hard. Thank you Ricky!”

So it’s gotta be true right?

  7. i stole from you, you caught me, so i’ll leave next year… in what just world is that good enough?

    1. Why people keep saying that Trump was right. Trump did not said nothing new that we didn’t know already, so stop giving Mr. Trump credit for what he said. For as long I remember there has always being corrupt politicians in ALL political parties in PR, it being happening for decades. And Trump is not any better than Ricardo Rosselló, both are cut with the same pair of scissors.

  8. His expulsion could very expedient for him to forceably leave office:. There is enough criminal evidence for the FBI to move in and do their part.

    1. Miguel Méndez: Journalists in P.R. are receiving death threats. Sounds familiar? “In other countries they shoot the press. But, I can’t do that!”- DJT

  9. Oh look another corrupt Hillary supporter. Vote Trump 2020 and keep corrupt politicians away from power.

    1. You want to vote Trump, but keep corrupt politicians away from power?

Trump is the poster boy of corruption.

    1. Yah! CNN is … wait, what? Really? So the MAGA crowds are just farmers who don’t have high speed internet and religious nutters. Oh, that does make more sense.
