He asked the Ukraine president to do him a favor, information on Biden, in exchange for monetary assistance to fight the Russians for his own political benefit. That is bribery, quid pro quo, or whatever you want to call it. If he didn’t do it then why won’t he let the others testify to prove his innocence? If he did this one time how how many other times has he done it. He has even done it in front of the cameras. Everything he does wreaks of guilt. The old saying goes if you have nothing to hide you have nothing to fear. He sure acts like a guilty person. Pretty simple. Btw I am an independent former republican and am ashamed of the party I once belonged to. I would bet my 401k that if Obama had done this the Republicans would have impeached years ago. Trump is not singularly influenced by Russia, he’s singularly influenced by his own greed. Because Russia has stepped in to fund him in the past, when no one else would, he just sees them favourably, so is willing to give them things they want, with the expectation they’ll help him out some more later. Although make no mistake, it’s not done out of devotion to Russia, Putin, or what not, it’s just that Trump, only does what he thinks is best for him, and would likely throw his own kids under the bus if he thought he could benefit from it.
What amazes me is that the GOP can’t grasp the reality of the situation – if they allow Trump to get away with this, there are no checks and balances on the presidency, and he becomes a dictator. The next thing would be Trump declaring himself president for life and your country would end up in the toilet with him bleeding it dry.

They grasp the reality, for the most part, I think. The GOP has been heading in this direction for almost 40 years. They have been systematically destroying the way our goverment operates for that long. Early on it was a small group who got up and left the table, bringing almost all negotiations into this age of Us vs. Them. They have been demonizing “Them” – which happens to be the majority of Americans (dems) – with the help of their monstrous lie-machine (=Fox ‘news’) for just as long. We now have two Americas; one (Rs’) is fake.

The secret is that the bold lie works because it is impossible to believe the big lie without being complicit in the lie. As a result, you have followers that have a stake in defending the lie and identifying with the lie. The lie itself becomes a principle of unity, a principle of action, and to a certain degree, a principle of power. This is why you see such a vigorous reaction when exposing the lie for what it is. People do not want to know that they bought into a big lie. It threatens their sense of self and identity.

It’s literally that serious. I keep thinking when we get back to normal when this is all over but then I realised there is no guarantee of that at all. Kathleen, fortunately these days there are a lot of books that can give us the background we need, and most of them start decades before DJT even thought about running for any office. There is so much more information about this that we have now than we had +40 years ago when Watergate became the Big Thing (and thrilling, too!). Watergate inspired many good authors, some writing even today! 😊
You are so right! I really like what Malcolm Nance has to say. Rick Wilson wrote a book called “Everything Trump Touches Dies” which I haven’t read yet but he is on MSNBC & CNN as a commentator and what he says makes a lot of sense.
