Trafalgar, Dominica– April 12th 2010- Dominica’s internationally recognized, and Chicago IL based Criminologist and Sociologist, Dr. Peter K. B. St. Jean, will be launching a worldwide initiative entitled, “PEACEFUL WORLD MOVEMENT” and the Dominica subdivision of that Movement entitled, “PEACEFUL DOMINICA INITIATIVE” in his hometown village of Trafalgar, at the Trafalgar Community Centre. The event begins at 6:30pm, and ends at 9:00pm.

The mission of the PEACEFUL WORLD MOVEMENT is to further develop a PEACEFUL WORLD INDUSTRY (or Peace Industry) that Dr. St. Jean has designed to be a sustainable antidote to the worldwide problems of violence, crime, juvenile delinquency, and other social troubles.

The main idea of the PEACEFUL WORLD MOVEMENT is that problems of violence, crime, and delinquency will not be adequately addressed with the usual “war on crime” initiatives that seem to chase after problems instead of treating root causes. Based on intensive criminological and sociological research in various parts of the world over the last 15 years, Dr. St. Jean has concluded that violence is rooted in inabilities to find and maintain peace on individual, community, institutional, national, regional, and wider social levels. He found further, that inabilities to find and maintain peace are rooted in inabilities to resolve various types of conflicts.

He has sought and found the common denominators of peaceful conflict resolution, and has integrated them into a variety of PEACE PRODUCTS that aim to increase human peace intelligence1, and peace efficacy2. Dr. St. Jean will explain those PEACE PRODUCTS, and his
plan to train Dominica nationals, especially the youth, on how to use those products to develop viable business as Peace Artists, and other types of Peace Entrepreneurs. In other words, engaging in creative economy where peace becomes a product for the dual good of income generation as well as producing a peaceful and just society.

One of the fundamental ideas of the PEACEFUL WORLD MOVEMENT is that violence is more likely to be sustainably reduced through initiatives that are incentivized by increased peace, rather than those that are reactive to violence and crime.

Therefore, Dr. St. Jean has initiated this world tour, which begins in Dominica today, as a way to alert the world about his findings, and the action plan that he has devised as an alternative to failed responses to violence and crime.

Dr. St. Jean is beginning this worldwide Movement in Dominica with the hope of receiving sufficient collaboration and support so that PEACEFUL WORLD INITIATIVES can be replicated in various communities, nations, and regions around the world.

His hopes are that the Dominica community will seek clarifications about his ideas, embrace them, and take serious strides to implement them in Dominica. This will include establishing at least one Peaceful World Centre3 or Peaceful World Unit4 on the Island. In this way, when he takes the PEACEFUL WORLD MOVEMENT to other parts of the world so that other PEACEFUL WORLD INITIATIVES can be developed (for example, a St. Kitts PEACEFUL INITIATIVE), persons will be referred to Dominica for initial PEACEFUL WORLD training so that they can be certified to use the PEACEFUL WORLD PRODUCTS.

He hopes that this will be the beginning of a process whereby Dominica will be able to export peace, and capacities for peace. He will explain this concept further at the event. He will also further explain why he is attempting to raise the first EC $1 million for the PEACEFUL DOMINICA INITIATIVE.

After today, the PEACEFUL WORLD MOVEMENT, and PEACEFUL DOMINICA INITIATIVE will be on tour across Dominica through the following events:
