    1. Major Minor — the problem is not their single payer system; the problem was that Italy started taking this seriously a bit too late. They started with testing and isolating people rather slowly, so all of a sudden the number of cases exploded within a few days and hospitals were overwhelmed. That’s why flattening the curve is what’s so important: to not overburden the system. It doesn’t matter if you have a single payer system if there’s not enough hospital beds or ventilators when thousands of people get sick at the same time

    4. @TJ maybe if Italy would have closed its borders instead of not wanting to appear “xenophobic” so many of its people wouldn’t be dying

    1. Hopefully that doesn’t really happen or things will escalate from worse to horrible.

    2. Just to “be clear” the expression (will send you the army with the flame throwers) by the president of Campania region, was/it’s Just an example intented as hilarious and sarcastic “not serious way…”
      That’s our tipical way to exaggerate/underline a concept…
      “making it clearly understandable…”
without guns or flame throwers obviously…

    1. Out on the sidewalk is safe as long as everyone has the common sense to not go out when they are clearly sick and the sidewalks are not crowded or meeting places. In Italy they probably found the crowded and meeting place part was happening. Have they had media blitz on behavior around older people in the home, that anyone can have the virus at any time and kill those old people, that they should be prepared to leave them to some extent isolated for the next 6 or they potentially will end up being responsible for their premature death.

    2. @UClQRxFRYK0w9EIcC2ymJ-yA But in Spain, they’re sedating those above 65 so that they can give respirators to those much younger. This is one of those things you need to realize, as a younger person, we may not die from the Coronavirus, but if you do get hospitalized to fight the Coronavirus, the ability for those above 65 to be treated are less likely as doctors and nurses will put more time, energy, and effort to those much younger, even if everyone could get a respirator.

Yes the death rate if you’re below 50 years old is less than 0.2%, but over 50% of all CASES are below 50 years old. There’s more to a virus than just deaths
