The Dominica Infirmary in Roseau was one of several institutions to benefit from the annual presentation of food supplies on Wednesday, December 17th by the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, Hon. Matthew Walter and staff from the Division of Agriculture.

In his remarks at the presentation ceremony at the Dominica Infirmary, Hon. Walter said it was “always a pleasure to attend those types of functions where we exhibit love to people”.

” Today we are demonstrating exactly what Jesus Christ asked us to do, that is, we have to feed the hungry, we have to house the homeless, we have to clothe the naked. And we have to give solace to those who are sad and those who are in a state of despair. I think it is our responsibility to be each other’s keeper,” Hon. Walter stated.

The Minister also said that people should not only show love and concern at Christmas time.            Hon. Walter added that the Dominica Infirmary is an institution which relies heavily on the generosity of others in order for it to fulfil its mandate.

Hon. Walter, who is also the former Minister for Community Development recognised the contribution of the former Director of the Dominica Infirmary, Mrs. Katherine Beautreau and the efforts of the present Director, Mrs. Alie Matthew.

In her remarks, Mrs. Matthew expressed her “heartfelt thanks” to the Minister for Agriculture and the Division of Agriculture for their annual food presentations to the Dominica Infirmary.

The food supplies included ground provisions, citrus, vegetables, ginger, sorrel, coconut water, beef and pork. Most of the food supplies came from agricultural stations across the country.

The presentation ceremony was also attended by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture, Mrs. Claudia Bellot, Acting Director of Agriculture, Mr. Richard Alport and other members of staff of the Division of Agriculture.

Presentations were also made on Wednesday to the Grotto Home for the Homeless, Operation Youth Quake, the Princess Margaret Hospital, Grange Home for the Aged in Portsmouth, Marigot Hospital, Portsmouth Hospital and the Mahaut Home.
