Formal commissioning of Fond St. Jean Sea Defence and Roadworks project set for Friday

pr8609_fond_st_jean_sea_def.jpgRoseau, Dominica – September 16, 2009……… The Government of Dominica will formally commission the Fond St. Jean Sea Defence and Roadworks project on Friday, September 18th 2009.

 

The objective of the project was to protect this vital piece of road which was being undermined by the sea.

The Fond St. Jean Sea Defence and Roadworks project involved the rehabilitation of 240m of Road and the construction of 290m of retaining wall. The Carriageway is 6.5m wide with slipper drains on both sides and a 1.5m wide sidewalk. The average height of the retaining wall is 4m.

The works span from the Fond St. Jean Bridge to the bend near the Fisheries facility at the beginning of the village.

The project was designed by the Ministry of Public Works and Infrastructural Development. The contractor on the project was ACE Engineering Ltd. a locally owned and operated contracting company. The project, which began in January this year, was executed under the supervision of the Ministry of Public Works and Infrastructural Development.

The formal commissioning ceremony is expected to take place in Fond St. Jean this Friday, starting at 5pm. Prime Minister and Minister for Finance and Social Security, Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit, Minister for Public Works and Infrastructural Development, Hon. Rayburn Blackmoore and Parliamentary Representative for the Petite Savanne Constituency, Hon. Urban Baron (SAH) will address the gathering.
