    1. Well the age is a factor in how much the family gets but ya, it should criminal negligence. Unfortunately we don’t have meaningful standards for these homes.

  1. They should get much more for that and yes criminal charges too!!!! It just makes me sick to even think of!

  2. Of course the owners, and staff, were negligent, incompetent, or both. C’mon, after a fire alarm no one checks all the exits and does a check in with residents? No, we just sit out our asses collecting our paycheques, we don’t even raise our eyes to check security camera feeds.

  3. I have worked in long term care facilities for years and years, I finally had to quit. The abuse and negligence is massive, if the public REALLY knew how bad their loved ones were being treated there would be riots in the streets. it’s simple, profit over people, the health care industry has always been about that, the patient/resident is not important. I saw it first hand on a daily basis.

  4. 1 million is not near enough for the pain and suffering that poor old woman endured which led to her death its such a shame I am praying for her family they need it to get through this horrible tragedy

  5. It’s the only way they’ll learn. The Duceppes can afford big shot lawyers, so maybe, next time, these senior homes will be more careful.
