@Javier Perwz Well you certainly cannot expect that trump’s administration or any other republican administration would ever do anything to help the less fortunate in Portland or anywhere else. Only help those people can hope for will come from a Democratic administration that actually cares about the people over enriching the wealthy. BTW it was the republicans that removed the public option from the ACA (aka Obamacare) which would have made it possible for those Portland people to have care at no cost to them.
Your taxes should have taken care of it; but instead the US gov will send her God knows where. The best solution would be to support the heathcare systems of mexico / salvador / guatemala etc.
The real solution is not borders but prosperity without borders.

The USA government on every level SHOULD be helping. To do so, the system as it is and has been for decades needs to change.
I’m tired and disgusted at Democrats and Republicans for bending to the will of Corporate America and Wall Street. Is why I’m voting for Bernie Sanders. He’s not beholden to them and will change the Anti Trust laws among many other things that bends to the will of we the people.
However, these children and adults that are on life saving measures will die long before the election.

Country wide moral outrage stopped the Trump family separation policy last year. But it needs to be the whole country, including the GOP and those “pro-life” evangelicals too.
But I appreciate the journalist keeping it professional and based on the hope of persuasion. Lawrence is right, if it upsets the “liberal media” Trump’s administration will consider it a win.
Pro-lifers are only pro life for 9 months, after that you’re on your own, not only that, but they will happily, delightedly participate in your death. I know, I am related to several of them.

for a lot of people compassion is very tight with religious values, so is ok. the problem is for people that are religious and then say that the rule of law shall be followed without thinking about the real moral desitions inside applying the law and not seeing the entire picture.
The first victims of the Nazi regime, were sick, disabled, and debilitated people in hospitals and asylums. People deemed unfit and a burden on society. Doctors and nurses sometimes risked their own lives to save these patients by any means necessary. Will we do less? Does that make us the Nazis?

I don’t know much about MPS-6. But, what I do know is that if Trump’s youngest child were to get that same disease after Maria has been deported back to Guatemala, he would WASTE NO TIME “bribing” Maria to come back to the US so she can continue with the study to help find a cure, mainly for his son, NOT for Maria or other young people who may already have the disease. Therefore, Trump IS ONLY sympathetic to the safety or well-being his own.
That’s how it usually is with conservatives, unfortunately.
This is not the first time a seriously ill person was sent from USA to a country where they had no medical support and who died within 3 months. I fear Lawrence you might be speaking against the thunder of a White House which cares nothing for people who need care.
I remember watching a video a couple of days ago about a guy who had lived his whole life in the US but was born to Iraqi immigrants.He was put on a commercial flight and deported back to Iraq where he knew no one , didn’t even know the language.He was diabetic and died a few days later because he couldn’t get his insulin dose.
Before the war began in Europe in 1939, they began rounding up and killing those with deformities and disabilities…. Stephen Miller and Sebastien Gorka originated this, but Trump and Pence and Homeland Security own this. Homeland might as well start wearing brown shirts.
