In this report on Wednesday, the third day of Trump’s impeachment trial and the first day of the substantive opening arguments, MSNBC Chief Legal Correspondent Ari Melber breaks down the key moments. Melber analyzes the high stakes debate over witnesses and shows the top clips of prosecutors making their opening case to convict by presenting evidence the President abused power. 1. “Ignorance is Strength.” This is the official motto of the cult known as Trumpism.  We know this because of Trump sycophants like Kellyanne, who promotes the idea of “alternative facts.” And Rudy Giuliani, who famously declared that ” truth isn’t truth.”

“Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street building has been renamed, every date has been altered. And the process is continuing day by day and minute by minute. History has stopped. Nothing exists except an endless present in which the Party (Trump) is always right.”
    — George Orwell, 1984

In George Orwell’s novel 1984, a Thoughtcrime is the criminal act of holding beliefs that opposes or questions the Party. A Thoughtcrime is thinking of anything that the Thought Police and the Party deems is illegal. Doubting the party line, or thinking anything contrary to the Party’s message.

Within Trump’s cult, he has a name for those who commit “Thoughtcrimes” against him, like questioning his actions, and calling out his lies, Trump refers to these people as “Never Trumpers.”

  2. If it’s a trial, Shouldn’t he be their.
    He is the accused
I mean after all is he not the “ very stable genius “ ?

    1. @Crow woman he can be called as a witness he doesnt have to be the one being tried. If they called me tommorow I would go. I don’t even have nothing to do with government and nothing to hide so I wouldn’t have no reason to hide.

    2. @Kristina M Bowen if Biden has nothing to do with anything than it shouldn’t be a problem for him to speak. It’s funny how a man who has done nothing wrong is off limits . If Biden is so good then let the republicans call him in. Let them look stupid. No Biden is dirty.

    3. @Bo Shepherd you claim to be an independent but you have a Republican-like inability to understand the process.
      He was NOT there.
      He is not a witness.
If trump wants him charged then he needs to charge him. But he can not provide any information conducive to the charges against trump.
Those charges are based on trumps actions.

    4. @Bo Shepherd now where have I claimed Biden to be good guy?
Like I said- If trump believes he has a case then he should press charges against Biden.
What part is hard to understand??

    1. get the smelling salts out.. Miss Lindsay Graham is about to pitch another Hissy fit….she might come down with a case of the Vapours…..

  3. Of course Trump’s crimes are indeed lmpeachment, Bill Clinton was lmpeached for a lot less, This is a complete disregard for the Justice System, As well as the office of a President, Welcome to the Trump era !

    1. @David Rodgers YOU WOULD UNDERSTAND IF SOMEONE, BROKE IT DOWN AND EXPLAINED IT TO YOU PIECE BY PIECE ! 🙄😖👍🏻

    2. @David Rodgers Are you hoping that Trump will get away with his crimes..? Guess again. We have BUCKETS of evidence. Why do you think Trump keeps trying to block it..? Do innocent men need to block documents and witnesses..?

  4. We know he’s guilty and we know he’s gonna get away with it, again.

Vote blue 2020 and drain this cesspool once and for all.

  5. Senator Lindsey Graham speaks openly about impeachment!

(Before he was taking Russian Money)

–He has sullied our legal system in every way.

–Let it be said that any president that cheats our institutions,

    -Shall be impeached.

–The day Richard Nixon failed to answer that subpoena,

-Is the day he was subject to impeachment,

-Because he took the power from congress…

–You don’t even have to be convicted of a crime

-To lose your job in this constitutional republic.

–Impeachment is about cleansing the office.

–He encouraged people to lie for him, he lied…

    –I think he obstructed justice!

  6. No secrets with this administration, national security and all other classified information is sure, at some point, to be tweeted out on social media.

    1. David Rodgers Even if he is, this isn’t about Joe Biden. No one is defending Joe for any wrongdoing. Biden isn’t President of the United States of America, Donald Trump is. It is Trump’s impeachment trial.

    2. @Ellen C If the bidens were going to be investigated it should have happened during the Hunter’s tenure with the company… present day though – the t’rump children are in an active quid pro quo with multiple countries profiting from 45’s status

    3. @David Rodgers I did a google image search for “hideously deluded fool” … just pics of MAGA hat wearers and GOP members. Hahahahahahaaaa!!!!

    4. …what are you talking about? chump has already tweeted out classified Information… have you forgotten about the Special forces he posted on Twitter? , what about a failed rocket launch where chump hinted we might have been involved?

  7. You keep saying you want them to testify but you block them… there’s no national security problem the only national security problem is You…. trump!!!

    1. @Kevin NYC By STILL supporting his ROT you’re losing YOUR OWN SOUL to RACISM, BIGOTRY, and just an ALL around ROTTEN” human being” !!

  8. don’t write here that you want to hear from witnesses. Call your senators and tell them that. Everyone who wants the truth to come out, call your Senators and force them to do the right thing.

    1. DID THAT. SOME CLERK LISTENED BUT HAD NO COMMENT. PROBABLY ONE OF THOSE SAME PERSONS PAID TO BE TROLLS AND POST COMMENTS FROM FOX NEWS.

  9. Sunlight is the best disinfectant to expose this shitshow once and for all. Regardless of the outcome people need to wake up.

    1. Yep. Nunes is too busy suing people who hurt his feelings & digging up Biden dirt, to do his job. Graham is just plain compromised.

    1. And He defeated the smartest and most morally pure politicians of the Right and Left. Hence, the never-ending attempt of this two-headed viper to get rid of him (and in reality to frustrate the voter . . . particularly the voter who does not bow to the Left, even the the liberal.

    2. @Ann van de Kew Ask the farmers this year as they benefit from Trump getting China to agree to purchase billions of dollars of USA crops!

    3. @ Bud Pigfucker, Among developed countries, America sits at the bottom in this regard. US life expectancy, already relatively low, fell in each of the first two years of Trump’s presidency, and in 2017, midlife mortality reached its highest rate since World War II. This is not a surprise, because no president has worked harder to make sure that more Americans lack health insurance. Millions have lost their coverage, and the uninsured rate has risen, in just two years, from 10.9% to 13.7%.

    4. @ Bud Pigfucker, Trump may be a good president for the top 1%—and especially for the top 0.1%—but he has not been good for everyone else. If fully implemented, the 2017 tax cut will result in tax increases for most households in the second, third, and fourth income quintiles.
