Cities Work To Test And Isolate Homeless Population, Preventing Fast Spread Of Virus | MSNBC

Housing advocates fear an outbreak of coronavirus in homeless populations as shelters across the country scramble to increase capacity and maintain social distancing. With no access to health care the homeless can spread the virus across states faster than people that can afford regular health care. 1. What? Are you telling me homelessness is a problem that concerns us all?
    Who would have guessed…(s)

    1. @Robert Parker lol yeah that’s definitely what happens. Most people are one emergency situation away from being homeless but yeah they all choose it.

  2. Homeless people are equal citizens too, and are particularly vulnerable. If ever there was a time to help those poor people, it’s now.

    1. @Beam light WHY DON’T ALL THESE BILLIONAIRES AND THE TOP 1% SET UP DONATIONS, AND HOW ABOUT BUILDINGS FOR THEM TO LIVE

    2. Sorry, that’s not the American way, that’s “socialism” or a, “commie plot”.
America is all about every man for himself. Americans have no problem with their taxes being squandered on endless losing wars or bailing crooked banks or tax relief for the wealthy, but don’t ever suggest actually helping your poor or your sick.

    3. They are the safest among us. living outdoors breathing fresh air and having limited contact with society. They self isolate by nature. They are living the lifestyle the CDC recommends. Crystal is correct. Bringing them to a shelter indoors in close quarters is a death sentence for many of them.

    1. Brucifer Mephistopheles : You can be homeless and still have shelter, by our society’s definition. Having a lean-to in the woods, living in your car, or living in a homeless shelter is still classified as homeless here in the US.

  3. If the politicians were doing their job we wouldn’t have this problem with the homeless. It is inhumane to encourage the mentally ill and drug addicted to live on the street.

    1. @Crystal Giddens new law: shelter or charged with 1st degree murder. Federal law, federal execution. If caught not sheltering down, its a crime, cuz it kills the elderly.

    2. Vote Conservativism not Marxism and in democratic sanctuary cities and districts if Conservativism you would not have the radical marxist dictators on the left created

    1. He doesn’t know the answer. He’s doing the job of our so-called president. EVERYONE IS DOING HIS JOB right now. He’s one useless POS!

    1. Back in the 1800s it was always think about the children.

But nowadays the homeless junkies are more important.

    2. @Crystal Giddens It’s all rather frightening – the idea of isolating a group of people who have already fallen through the cracks. After their “isolation” would we ever see them again?

  4. The homeless are isolated enough and do not need further isolation. They need health care, shelter, food and inclusion into society!

    1. Schmelson Hefflefinger
Most don’t want interference. That’s why we need *involuntary* commitment.

    2. And for that to happen society needs to change. Bernie 2020! “Socialist” countries have less homelessness.

    1. @Crystal Giddens STFU AND WE KNOW YOUR A TROLL AND YOUR REPETITIVE TALKING IS DISGUSTING 💀💀💀😵😵

    2. YOU PEOPLE never quit do you? The relief funding bill they are about to pass is for everyone. WTF is wrong with you. Opps………forgot I was talking to a TDS infected liberal. Give it up for a change will you?

    1. it is the communist one world party’s idea and yes, they belong to it. Their plan is to “eliminate” homelessness by 2021… they are going to exterminate them

    2. @Crystal Giddens if your not a contributor to society its bye bye. And Republicans are 100 % for this because God hates poor people. Democrats 100% for this because it will resolve some of the environmental problems.

  5. Who wooda thunk that systematically destroying the middle class by busting unions, doling out welfare for the rich and valuing stockholders over workers for the past 40 years would have consequences?

    1. THEY turned the country into one Big Casino, and Trump stepped up to run it into the ground. Wall Street has always been GAMBLING – the dealers want you to believe it is a pillar of society and of global economy. But it is just a recently invented thing we came up with. ITS GAMBLING. And the whole world is harmed by it.

  6. the homeless. help the homeless. now. for all our sakes. not a single homeless person on the street immediately. get the national guard now.

  7. Of the 25 homeless that my church assisted for a week last summer (through a county program) most had jobs. They had been skilled or middle class. A couple required surgery and recuperation. One had just finished burying a parent that he had been a caregiver to in those final months. Some have child support payments that they can nolonger handle. When the economy and unions were strong, people not working were more likely to have physical or mental problems, but that’s not the case any longer. These are well mannered, well spoken men that you can carry on an intelligent conversation with. The old people (who had lived through the depression) would have said, “There but for the grace of God go I”. It’s up to us to have some compassion, because it’s certainly not going to come from Trump.

    1. I was homeless for about 6 months living in a tent. I worked 3 jobs to try to get out of it. It can happen to anyone.

    2. @Jeff Gibson – It’s unfortunate that you have paid so little attention to what our American president does as opposed to what he says. He has held Americans in complete contempt for many years now. His father was an active member of the KKK, and both of them have been losing federal court cases for their racist real estate deals over the last 50 years. That’s not an opinion. That’s a fact. The only reason that the Republican Senators did not have a legitimate Impeachment Trial in order to remove Trump from office was that they were unwilling to lose the power to continue to appoint Federal judges. Mitch McConnell has been working his way through his own personal list of people to put in position. They don’t need to be legally qualified, or even morally righteous. They simply have to be conservative or fascist. McConnell has placed more Federal judges on the bench, in Trump’s name, than in any other 3 year period of our history. It’s been clear that sooner or later the economy would react to all of the presidential meddling. The pandemic has simply made the stock market’s vote of “no confidence” more dramatic. Trump had always been a big donor to the Democratic Party. However, when interviewed by People Magazine in 1998, he said that if he did run for public office, he would do so as a Republican because they are so stupid and gullible. Clinton was a smart lady and Putin had developed a grudge against her while she was Secretary of State. It was Putin’s perfect revenge against her to have her beaten by the buffoon. Now, better late than never? Trump and his buddies say that they will use the war powers act in order to scramble manufacturing elements into actually saving American lives, but then he pulls back. He’s unable to delegate or organize. So, he tells the nation he’s not a shipping clerk? Meanwhile, it appears that Jared is trying to set up some money making deals from a White House back room. People have become confused. With such a vengeful president, do they kiss the Trump butt or the Kushner butt? American lives matter. All lives matter. However, the principle the current president stands by is that only money matters. That’s not an opinion. That’s a fact.

  8. The wealthiest country on the planet is also the greediest and most incompetent. It’s stomach churning to watch the corruption and stupidity of the USA.

    1. @Jeff Gibson
Thanks, but I’m far from sad, I live in one of the top 5 democracies in the world, we outlive Americans by several years on average and we have a great health system for *all* our people.
We do have some practices that may seem strange to Americans though:
the person with the most votes wins.
We don’t have to go to Canada to afford insulin for those who need it and we didn’t shoot 200 of our children to death in the first 10 weeks of this year.
You know,……… stuff like that make a difference.
Oh, and our leader isn’t a halfwit.
      Cheers

    2. @Jim Battersbee And your country is so boring that you have to read the news from interesting countries.

  9. This is the group I am most worried about. The greatest Economy and the greatest Country in the WORLD is unable to handle an emergency like this. Sad

  10. Tiny house communities would be excellent to help prevent uncontrolled spread of the virus in homeless communities. As well as providing a bit of dignity.

  11. Trump to coronavirus: “I’m the best runner the world has ever seen – so I’ll give you a 3 month start”
