cruisecarnivalROSEAU, Dominica (CMC) – The Dominica government has welcomed the decision of Carnival Cruise line, Carnival, to return to the island after a two year absence.

Telecommunications Minister Ambrose George said that the Ministry of Tourism had played a leading role in ensuring the return of the cruise line that ended a 21-year relationship with Dominica in 2010.

“We have been told that Carnival Cruise will again appear in Dominica in December 2012. I really want to commend the Ministry of Tourism in that respect,” he said, adding that the Roosevelt Skerrit government has invested in the regional airline, LIAT, to provide “a valuable service to our people and the tourists who come to our shores in Dominica”.

Carnival Cruise had cited high fuel costs and complaints from passengers regarding the excessive number of port calls on their seven day itinerary for dropping Dominica on its schedule.
