“Survival of the fittest” until wallstreet needs a 4 trillion dollar bailout or every auto company (except Ford). The market is not some untouchable entity. It needs people to run it.
If we really ran on survival of the fittest, then our entire economy would have collapsed after the housing crash if not for the bailouts.
@Matt Jackson Housing crisis, for example, along with the bailout “required” for auto manufacturers, was created by government policy rather than the free market. You can’t switch between laissez faire economics back to stricter regulation and forth and expect a free market to act normally. The bottom line is that politics and political promises have almost always gotten in the way the moment when “survival of the fittest” even comes close to becoming an issue. No one is allowed to fail, and that’s the problem.
