You say, “WHY challenge a subpoena unless he was hiding evidence?” but I don’t know and it certainly is not evidence of guilt. If such a thing were real many judges across the country would be putting away people as soon as they exercised their constitutional rights. If you are charged you do not have to testify to defend yourself, for example, and many people do that even when not guilty. Many lawyers will advice clients not to testify, unless they have to.

Also, Bolton went to see his lawyer, who went to a judge, who told him he did not have to testify. I think that is still in the courts.
Point is people have rights, but dems think Trump does not have those rights, and when Trump uses those rights dems say that is evidence he is crooked. It is not evidence but him exercising a right.
Dems say Trump is destroying the constitution but it seems to me the dems are doing it, or at least trying to.
Here’s what’s wrong with GOP senators copping out like that….if you think that the house managers proved Trump’s guilt beyond a doubt and in your mind the act didn’t warrant impeachment or removal, then why did the WH lawyers tell lie after lie after lie to the American people (and allegedly one of the lawyers was in on it)? The American people deserve to know more and deserve to know the reason for all of the lies. If the GOP cowards have turned on their heels and abandoned their posts in the Senate and have instead left it to the people of the US, then they deserve to hear the whole story. That’s incorrect. He refused to show up and testify and ordered all the witnesses to defy subpoenas, he withheld documents, and the Republicans in the Senate refused to call witnesses or subpoena documents.
The GOP Senators could have saved us a lot of time and trouble if, at the beginning, they had just admitted, yeah he did it, but we don’t believe that abuse of power and obstruction of Congress are valid crimes to convict and remove Trump. It would be for any other president, but not The Chosen One. Shameless cowards!

@berdboy One of the cases made was Abuse of Power. The act he did commit, as explained, is a crime. It can not be disputed. If you do, you either contradict the law (it is available to read), or you can’t make simple logical deductions (I promise, I can, as I have studied advanced logic classes at university in both math and philosophy).
BUT CRIMINAL CHARGES AGAINST A SITTING PRESIDENT CAN NOT BE MADE WHILE HE STILL IS IN OFFICE. How can you not know that! It has been expressed by both Republicans, Democrats, FOX, CNN, the Muller Report, the FBI, the DOJ, Experts on law, and Trump himself.
And if you really had some kind of basic knowledge you’d therefore would know that impeachment is not about charging crimes. It is about charging the President for corrupting his office.
Crimes are tried in ordinary courts. So if there is a crime (and as shown, there is), he must first be impeached and removed. Then he can be charged of crimes in an ordinary court. In the impeachment he isn’t therefore charged with crimes. He is charged with Abuse of Power. Because the crime explained is also abuse of power. One of the many things he has done that is abuse or power. But perhaps the most obvious one, as it is so easy to prove that it is also a crime.
So why Democrats or anyone else hasn’t charged him with a crime is because they can’t. And because the impeachment isn’t a criminal court.
Saying as you do, parroting Republicans false propaganda, that he must be charged with a crime in the Senate to be removed is just nonsense. All legal experts agree the Republicans are wrong, even Trumps layer have clearly expressed so earlier (and when recently asked if he was wrong, he said he wasn’t… although at the same time he expressed that the Republicans are correct.. but I guess logical reasoning isn’t something people who believe in “alternative facts” and that “the truth isn’t the truth” can comprehend), and even a few of the Republicans acquitting him now say that the Republicans argumentation is wrong—but that they still will acquit Trump.
And if the Democrats charge had been a criminal charge, the Republicans would instead propagate that “well… then you have to take him to a court and find him guilty of the crime first… then we may evaluate if he should be removed from office”. And you would parrot the same (and you already in parts do). Even if this isn’t possible as explained above.
So to recapitulate:
A sitting President can not be charged with a crime in a juridical court. Not by the House, not by anyone.
A sitting President that has committed a crime must first be impeached and removed from office before he can be charged of a crime in a juridical court.
An impeachment is therefore not about charging crimes. It is about charging a President of using his office and his powers in corrupt ways. Or of “grabbing” power he doesn’t have the right to.
The President has clearly committed crimes (one explained above). But he can not be charged for the crime(s) because he is the President. He must be impeached and removed from office first. And he has now been impeached under the article Abuse of Power (and Obstruction of Congress). Because the crime(s) he has committed is also the President abusing his powers.
Abuse of Congress is an impeachable offense but not Abuse of Power.
