Sunday, 24 October 2010 02:59 ROSEAU, Dominica, (CMC) – Dominica Football Association chief, Patrick John has disclosed that all 20 national players will receive incentive bonuses for their outstanding performances during the first round of the Digicel Caribbean Cup.
Dominica advanced to the second round of competition for the first time when they defeated host country Dominican Republic and the BVI to top Group B, thus booking a place the second round.
“Our players performed really well in the Dominican Republic and we must acknowledge that. Too many times when players perform this well, we say hooray for five minutes and then we forget all about that. We need to give them incentives so that they can continue to produce and to make us proud,” said John, a former prime minister.
“I am going to recommend to the Board of Management of the DFA that we give the players some incentives. This means that all the 20 players will receive bonuses in the form of cash.
“We believe that this is important so that they will continue to give their all,” added the national footballer.
Dominica, who made significant strides in the latest Caribbean Football Union rankings jumping 46 places in FIFA to be 13th, will face Suriname, Cuba and hosts Antigua and Barbuda, in the second round of the tournament next month.
