  1. The underperforming member of parliament the pm should never think of increasing their pay they should have been called out and put on probation or fired until they are deserving of it. if it was members of the working public that is what would have happened its the first I see people getting paid increase for doing nothing including the PM we need you all to lift up off our people and country

    1. There are no under-performing MPs in Jamaica as there are no defined roles for MP. MPs in Jamaica have no job descriptions and no defined roles. Is just a legacy role from colonial times. They form the government and the Opposition if them get enough vote. They receive constituency development fund weh dem use fi reward whoever vote fi dem. And dem show face to their constituencies and love di poor.

  2. Labor day should be a day of protest island wide… guess that won’t happen , it will be a day for partying which is more important than the issue at hand.. This administration can’t even provide water to the parish that gets the most rainfall annually πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ big idiot counrty…πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

    1. Will YOU be out protesting? OR are you in foreign throwing stones at your own people? To make such a derogatory comment, encompassing the whole country, says a lot, or very little, about you.

  3. There should be some regulations set up for non performing parlimentarians be fired and not waiting for election to be called to be voted out. They are now fully paid employees no more playing aroundπŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

  4. Term limits & Performance Based Pay & Renumeration for ALL Members of Parliament including the Prime Minister.

    1. Put into effect the 2003 report.
Where is the Job description for Parliamentarians and Concillors????
The Special Committee should immediately prepare the job description.

  5. Until we eliminate academic dishonesty in our society, academia will be unable to lead us out of this quagmire. The bottom line is that no company that wants to stay in business pays salaries that exceed production capacity. And this is precisely the situation in which Jamaica finds itself. Jamaica’s production capacity cannot support first-world salaries, so, like any good business, we must pay the salaries that we can afford rather than the salaries that people desire.

And saying that issuing job descriptions to politicians will solve all of this is a red herring to make fools happy because, in reality, every politician has a job description, it just happens to be oral; we all know what politicians do, and their job description is meaningless if we cannot stop politicians from buying votes at election time.

It is foolish for any country to borrow money to pay salaries and interest payments, then pay politicians tens of millions of dollars above our GDP production capacity. As a result, we need our academics to call a spade a spade and stop trying to be politically correct as if they are competing for future government consultancy.

  6. I agree there should be an independent committee to determine politicians’ pay. Politicians shouldn’t be able to decide on their own pay. Because this will continue to happen.

    1. I totaly agree..how is it politicians them selves can give them selves raises..they work for the people of Jamaican. an Independent none partisan none biased body need to be in place to oversee and grade performance of our politicians .

    2. I said this very same thing. There’s no way politicians should be able to determine their own pay from tax payers money

  7. Politicians should get the same percentage as normal public sector workers . If the workers get five percent the Politicians get the same . No changes they are all government workers

    1. You have to be careful here. You can’t use a flat percentage across all salary levels. Meaning e.g. 100% increase on $100 is $200… but 100% on $500 is $1000. In this example, the gap between the rich and the poor becomes much wider.

    2. @Jonathan ‘Vijon’ Garth I understand but I said they shouldn’t take mire percentage that what they give public sector because they give 20 percent and take 300 they should take 20 as well

  8. Suspending the 2024 salary increase won’t prevent them from getting what is due for this financial year

  9. The idea that the unconscionable pay increases will prevent corrupt politicians from stealing and lead to improve performance is asinine.

  10. The Jamaican government and apposition must roll back the pay increases. Government pay must tie to GDP per capita

  11. I don’t know if the salary is rolled back we just want them to be more accountable and that civil servants paid sustainably wage

  12. This is their patriotic duty that’s why we want to only rich people who actually run successful business who understand a balance sheet in politics that don’t put a burden on the countries fiscal spending

  13. It’s so sad to know that the people of Jamaica πŸ‡―πŸ‡² don’t have water but the government is giving them self pay increase the people of Jamaica need to think about it when the next election come around
