  1. Most of those “leaders” would have been attacking MLK at the time, especially after he came out against all their wars.

    1. Not Bernie. His policies and platform is the only candidate that correlates directly to what MLK was fighting for, Sanders continues to fight. The only candidate that walked with MLK.

    2. The Democrats ( Lyndon Johnson ) tried a smear campaign against DR. King saying that DR. Was colluding with the Russians. Some things never change . Time for a new playbook

  2. John Robert Lewis is an American patriot. He is an inspiration to the country–both for his heroism in Selma and fight for social justice as well as his courageous battle against pancreatic cancer.

    1. Nothing more funny then a bunch of rich white folks pandering to poor black idiots who will never get any of the promises they make them while enriching themselves with book deals and buying million dollar homes on the ocean while preaching to people about global warming!!

    2. judd442009 : STOP LYING. JOHN LEWIS IS A DEMOCRAT SLAVE. HIS DISTRICT IS FILTHY AND POLLUTED AS YOU ARE. YOU DUMB FOOL….

    1. @Tessmage Tessera You do know that will never happen right ? Most people over 30 know that socialism has killed millions and is the scourge of the world ……

    1. @Moritz Nesbigall Why would I not? Mini Mike, Little Mike are both perfect names for him. I don’t think Trump uses Leg Hair Joe.

    2. @William H because using his rhetoric legitimizes him just via repetition.
It symbolizes sympathy or at least acceptance of him.
Not that I believe you do, but that’s what the human subconscious does.
      So please don’t.

    3. @Whitey McPrivileged sorry, as a German I really don’t like jokes about fascists, even if they didn’t succeed yet.

    4. @Moritz Nesbigall Trump is the greatest and most successful president in modern history…are you female or HOMOSEXUAL?

    2. Yeah that’s not true ! And where is Bernie – I don’t see him there ! Is he pouting his big loss among black voters in SC ? He wasn’t fooling them with his pandering .

    3. @ThE DuCk He got arrested protesting school segregation in 1969, and is photographed behind MLK in a different march. He did not take park in the original Selma march though. Keep in mind Biden was against bussing and pro Crime bill.

    1. Destination Paradise

Me too. I’m starting to think they should turn comments off on some of those things.

    2. Nothing more funny then a bunch of rich white folks pandering to poor black idiots who will never get any of the promises they make them while enriching themselves with book deals and buying million dollar homes on the ocean while preaching to people about global warming!!

  3. A brave day, a brave people; We the people still believe. Nice to see. Keep On Keeping On DEMS!

  4. Many are the angels that walk amongst us on this earth. Beautiful and precious with their gossamer wings and divine ideas. Fewer are they that walk into the valley of darkness, against all odds, finding the power in their wings, to engage fully in the struggle to see those beautiful ideas spring forth into reality, to shed their light and illumination to all of us, and lead us all into a brighter new day. Once such a light has been seen, or bell rung, it cannot be unseen or unrung.

MLK was one such angel. Bernie Sanders is another.

Bernie doesn’t need to be, is not in Selma today. Bless all good people.

The reenactment of the battle is not the battle. He was there then, a part of the civil rights movement “before it was cool” and as these few candidates are using this memorialization for their campaigns, Bernie is continuing to wage his battle for ALL Americans, of all colors, ages, and persuasions. Today that battle is for the electoral votes in California in two days, so, unfortunately he could not take time to be there in Selma today for the photo op. Apologies and unity from a Sanders supporter.

Not that the Black vote is not terribly important in this battle. Just that you’ll find that Bernie doesn’t pander to identity politics in the same way as most politicians. He really sees poor Hispanics, poor native Americans, and poor disadvantaged white and black families as all being part of the same problem. The problem that is really at the root of, and underlying even the preeminent problems of racism, and that is what is known as unbound, or unfettered capitalism. It never even, strictly speaking, was about black vs white. It was the landowners vs the peasants, and that battle continues today.

So yeah, like MLK, Bernie is what’s called a “socialist”. And he hopes that most Americans will realize its in their interest to regulate business against unfair working conditions, monopolies, and “slave” wages, in their interest to establish a RIGHT to the future of a healthy environment and planet, and that two important things, or to put it in the words of some other folks, some “Truths we hold to be self evident” are that the richest country in the HISTORY OF THE WORLD has the ability, and moral obligation, to provide its citizens with an education, basic health care, and such simple basic things as eye glasses and dental care.

If you don’t think THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA can accomplish those few simple things, while also remaining a democratic republic and the financial, cultural, and sometimes moral and ethical, leader of the free world, then I say you underestimate us.

And you have not yet heard the angels singing. Someday I hope you’ll join us.

    Peace Selma!

    1. @Carlos Carlos illegal aliens aren’t taking your jobs or your social security. Your elected officials are cutting the budgets for them. They would rather subsidies wall street rather then you. Vote for people who use your tax dollars to provide you benefits and not billionaires.

  5. *_”Call it democracy, or call it democratic socialism, but there must be a better distribution of wealth within this country for all God’s children.”_*
Martin Luther King, Jr., May 1965

    1. All of God’s children didn’t have an equal hand in creating the country why should they benefit equally?

    2. Nothing more funny then a bunch of rich white folks pandering to poor black idiots who will never get any of the promises they make them while enriching themselves with book deals and buying million dollar homes on the ocean while preaching to people about global warming!!

  6. Bernie took part in civil rights protests during the 1960’s, when it actually made a difference. Young Bernie even went so far as to chain himself to a couple of black women, telling the police that if they wanted to arrest those women, then they’d have to arrest Bernie, too. He wasn’t running for office at the time — he wasn’t doing it for himself. *BERNIE 2020*

  7. Rev. Barber spoke before the Candidates and sure made a lot of sense… Rev. Barber has taken over where Dr. King left off…
